SFA 2005 webpage hint...

Given what we know so far there isn't much to speculate about just yet except given SF's waterpark track record we can almost certainly count on a proslide tornado being at least one of the new attractions in the waterpark....whatever they do plan on installing we'll find out once the announcement is made.

Has the park begun 05 season pass processing yet? we're going tomorrow & hope to get our 05 passes & would like to get them processed now rather than having to wait til our first visit in april.

Oh. Wow! You are going to buy a '05 pass. Yeah. Um. Pass processing began at the beginning of October. Of course. This could be found out by visiting www.sixflags.com/parks/america. Yeah sure. It's a long url. But if you bookmark it will be ready and waiting the next time you have a question. ;)

A day at the park is what you make it!

Yeah I'm gonna go ahead & get a pass for 05 even though there won't be any new stuff in the theme park side,at least with the HH expansion it'll probably mean shorter lines on the coasters & maybe even some of the water rides as well.
hey guys, Did any of you ever see any construction on site as of now? I think that with the water park expansion it would be a great idea to add an entrance from the water park to SWT!

I would also like to comment that the parking fees may increase this year with the addition of any new rides.....but lets wait and see!

you posted twice, lol.....not sure if you noticed that. im excited to see what SFA has planned....a new waterpark is deifnitely a good idea....Paradise Island is the posterchild of run down and outdated. ugh.

still trying to think of a good signature...

BWSFA.....all we have at SFA is a rather crappy SLC? umm...we have an insane Intamin hyper. we have arguably one of the best Six Flags woodies (IMO), that was designed by John Allen, and then AGAIN by Herb Schmeck...which is RARE. we have another awesome GCI woodie. we have one of only three Vekoma invertigos, which are very fun rides. we have a Vekoma flyer. we have a Premier mad cobra....

the list goes on. i think Six Flags America has a very impressive coaster line up. the "crappy SLC" you are referring to is one of eight coasters at the park that, IMO, present a very enjoyable choice to any park goer, thrill seeker, or moderate rider.

just my two cents....geez, be thankful for what you have

still trying to think of a good signature...

SFAmerica, I was at the park last Sunday and no, there wasn't any construction, or demolition for that matter, in the Paradise Island site. NOTHING at all has changed in Paradise Island since it has closed except fot the banner on it's entry gate. I even checked for clearing around the third parking lot (the other site proposed if they were to make it a completly new seperate admission park), and in the large fenced in area built in that same field (it can be seen from Superman's second hill), and NOTHING has changed.

I'd guess you won't see anything regarding 2005 construction until at least November or so, long after the park has closed for the year hiding any possible view from the public of construction until either A) a possible new slide tower gets high enough that it will be able to be seen over/through the trees or until B) the park reopens in the spring.

I mean, you look at that fenced in area where the slide pieces are supposed to be being stored and sorted in and there's NO way you can see that even if you can somehow get into the SFA parking lot in the offseason. On top of that, the park is far enough away from the road, and there are enough trees in between to block any view, that the park could start construction Nov 1st and we could never know anything is even going on until they officially announce the addition.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Beware of the SFA Rent-A-Cops Coaster Lover, I've been stopped once and almost stopped a second time for driving into that third parking lot when there was plenty of space to park elsewhere.

A day at the park is what you make it!

Na, I don't go into that third lot anymore unless I see something in that lot while on Superman or Mind Eraser. I really don't think there's been anything of any interest in the third lot or anything of interest you can see from the third lot so it's really a lost cause to go over there. Like I said, I usually just check that area by riding Superman a few times, that gives you a great view of the area.

I also got a letter in the mail today from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. I had asked them earlier about accessing past approved actions involving SFA just out of curiosity. They informed me that there were approximately 14 detailed site plans (DSPs) approved for SFA between Feb 1999 and Sept 2004 for things rangeing from major thrill rides to modifications of minor features like beverage kiosks..all approved. For those seeking more information, the exact DSP #s are DSP-87048/27 through DSP-87048/40.

They also told me that there was a Preliminary Plan of Subdivision (4-99062) approved in April of 2000, a Departure from Design Standards (DDS-518) approved in March of 2001, and a Final Subdivision Plat (5-02017) that was approved in Feb of 2002.

If you feel so inclined...I personally feel there's no reason to...you can access the cases by making an appointment with the Development Review Division (301-952-3530)...

My point...SFA is going to and already has had a lot of things approved that you NEVER even new happened. That "list" of "pre-approved attractions" that you see circulating around isn't everything the park has had approved. I mean, by the way the letter sounded, they just had something approved back in September of this year (interesting cause the hints came right at the beginning of October), but we were none-the-wiser. I mean, if you feel you really have to look into this further, be my guest...personally I prefer surprises...also, you have to stop with that "well, we'll have to see it on the planning board website..." tangent because there's PLENTY that SFA has already approved that we know nothing about. *** Edited 10/26/2004 4:39:08 PM UTC by Coaster Lover***

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

I went saturday & of course didn't see anything new going on in paradise island....got my 05 pass however.

As usual the park was rather empty but come sunset that changed & the place was packed,Batwing had 2 trains going(we were among the first of the day on train #2)& Two face's cars are now completely gone save for the wheel assemblies.

Finally I've got reason to go in coyote creek again by getting my first ever ride on rodeo & man was that thing a sweet ride & to top off the evening one airtime filled ride on WO.....the lap bar was so loose that practically all that was holding me in was the belt it was one helluva sweet way to end an evening.

One word of warning on season pass processing for those who plan to attend this weekend:they are processing 05 passes at the guest relations office instead of the usual season pass processing center,it'll really save you the trouble of walking all the way back there only to find it closed by going to GR instead.

SFA's rent a cops seem to do a good job patrolling the 2nd & 3rd lot,too bad they can't do the same for ride queues because as usual there were line jumpers to be found over at Batwing,at least they didn't get on because the darn thing broke down with a train stuck on the lift :).

VACoasterfreak:I was reffering to SFNO's B:TR in comparison with SFA's crappy SLC...SFNO really lucked out with the installation of that ride because as we all know the B&M inverts are far better for the most part than the vekoma's any day of the week...BTW WO was originally designed by John Miller, not John Allen although both individuals are well known for the design & creation of some of the best woodies in operation today.

If you want to keep track of when permits are issued for building in Hurricane Harbor, you can track by On-Line Permit Tracking System and type in "13710" in the street number box and "Central" in the street name box. You will see the permits issued for the rock climbing wall and Panda Express.

OK, OK...I have to comment.

The whole notion of SFA's waterpark being expanded was based on the first post, in which the park's website was quoted as saying:

"Tropical Fun Warnings"
"Hurricane Forcast for 2005."
"Next year will be BETTER and WETTER than ever!"

How, exactly, does that signal an expansion? Couldn't they simply be talking about adding a slide or two and giving them a hurricane theme? Keep in mind marketing and PR departments like to exaggerate...this may not be the huge project many of you think it is.

But I seent the shipingk crates wiht my own ize!1!!
I think that is one of the scenarios we played out in on of the previous four pages of messages. It could very well be. In fact, one scenario is, it couldn't even become a Hurricane Harbor, they might be just adding a couple of water rides and keep calling it Paradise Island. Besides, isn't the addition of one water ride an expansion? In fact, several improvements to the water park in 2004 (like painting and new signs) have already been completed. We may not see anymore. For all we know the expansion could have been the addition of the rock climbing wall.

A day at the park is what you make it!

That may be true but then why would they be hyping it up with hints on the official site(something the park has never done before) & a rather large banner giving those same hints on the front gate to paradise island?

The closest possible "hurricane" reference that they're making could refer to the addition of a new slide complex to be called hurricane mountain,or a proslide tornado with a hurricane theme/name.

We'll find out just as soon as they announce their plans...I'd rather see the announcement come sooner rather than later of course.

Mamoosh's avatar
Why? Because that's what marketing and PR departments generally do...they [over]hype.
Yes... Over hyping can also get you into a lot of trouble. People from this area have a number of good water parks they can patronize. Some probably have seen SFHH in NJ, others hit Waterworks at PKD and still others hit Water Country USA. Hyping could easily destroy any credability a corporation can have. Let me put it this way, if I show up to the same ole ratty looking Paradise Island next season with one new slides. I will carefully evaluate my season pass purchase for the 2006 season.

(hmmm... My BGW Platinum Pass expires at the end of next season, so does my SFA season and PKD pass, hmmm clean water park, looks nice, no odors, water doesn't burn my eyes and thrilling water rides vs. astro turf with holes in, wave pool that needs painting and only has one blower working, rap music concerts or top 40 music station blaring music I don't understand every Saturday, several other water rides need painting as well, dark locker rooms that make prison showers look bright).

A day at the park is what you make it!

There are at least two or three other waterparks in the DC metro area Guts...they are Splashmine at Lake Fairfax park,Cameron run waterpark in Alexandria & Splashdown waterpark in Manassas,Splashdown just happens to be right down the road a bit from where I'm at & they havn't added anything new in the 7 years that I've been living here & the only real thing they've got going for them are just two rather large water slides.

As for SFA I believe at least a name change to hurricane harbor is a given due to the hints they've dropped so far....now of course I'm still hoping they actually move it to the back of the park instead of the current location & I still think we may see that happen, doesn't anybody find it odd that there was no haunted hay ride attraction this year? it really makes you wonder if they're doing some major work back there that we can't see from anywhere in the park(even supes)now there's no reason to cancel that attraction if they were using the area to store ride parts as they've had the hayride running in that same general area even when superman's track showed up in the fall of 99.

There are a couple of small waterparks in Maryland as well. Unfortunately, the other "waterparks" in the D.C. area are themed better than SFA's.
