Server Errors

Jeff,

I've been getting mucho mucho server error messages. I'm staring at one right now. It says " Server Error in '/ads' Application. Could not allocate space for object 'Impressions' in database 'ads' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full."

Been getting that in the games area as well... any thoughts?

yup, im getting that to. i just actually had another error come up for the whole site. pretty much the same error except the error was just in / application

Yeah... I haven't been paying attention and archiving server logs, so I started to run out of space. Whoops! I think it's all good now. Drop me a line if you see any such errors again.

everythings working fine now Jeff. I recieved two different errors when trying to view the site. one was for the /ads and another being for coasterbuzz3.

quick question about the server log since im going to be using the .net for my site. does it automatically set the max size or is that user defined?

Well, there are two "logs" concerned here. The log that was hogging disk space is the generic traffic log that IIS uses to count hits to the site. That's the one that was out of control, and no, there's no limitation to its size.

The errors that people were seeing are for the SQL Server log, which you might think of as the temporary holding place for recent data changes. Whenever you add a record, for example, it is added to the log first, then the physical database file itself is updated in batches at some interval. I don't remember the technical end of it all, I just know it works. ;)

Jeff,

There's a similar problem occuring when one submits a site.

Server Error in '/' Application.

String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated.

Cheers :)

That error, which I need to fix, comes from having a description or title that's too long.

Cheers, I wrote a new one (much more to the point :)) and resubmitted, it worked this time, so I guess my old summary was too long (does 250 include spaces? I had about 250 without spaces, according to Word).
