Search feature problem

I am sure that many buzzers use the search feature to search for their member names in recent and long ago topics when they can't remember the details of a topic or when or who else...etc.   A history search, so to speak.

I know I have posted and replied to General Buzz topics since August 22 yet when I search for my name I get no hits since then.  I tried different "search bys" (Rank, date, replies) to no avail.

What is different is my ISP (internet address).  On August 24 I changed the ISP portion only of my e-mail address (user name stayed the same so my "member since date" did not change). I got the new password back from CB, made up my new one (also the same as the old CB one) and have been merrily going along as a buzzer.  Except for the search feature.  It doesn't hit recent posts/replies.  So, the only thing different is the ISP portion of my e-mail address.

 Thoughts, comments, please!

Your change was just coincidence. The index hasn't updated since that day for some reason. I just ran the indexing update today, so more current results should be available within the next half-hour or so.

The search feature works against an index the database updates nightly. It's set to automatically update. For that reason, a post you make now won't be visible to the search until the next day. Since it hasn't updated, for whatever reason, you won't see any new posts in the search results since 8/24.

Again, it should be all good within a half-hour or so.

Jeff,

I did notice earlier today how quick you were to respond.  Thanks!

I still cannot get search to show me any posts/replies I did since 8/23.  Search by date (descending order) is a nice function yet for me 8/23 is the first.  I know I have discussed some things in General Buzz since then and I want just to find a couple of them.

To me, this isn't a show-stopper, and I assume everyone else is in the same boat.  I just thought you would want to know what you explained earlier did not seem to take (index updating).

Well, beats me then. The database does return results from posts as late as this morning, so it has been updated.

Damn, looks like I am toast for using search in the future.  I may end up unknowingly doing what we know is annoying (repeating posts topics) because this problem occurs searching for anyone/anything; no results are found after 8/23.

That's not true... check out this search for Magnum:

http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forums/search.asp?search=magnum&Order=LastPostTime+DESC

Results start 9/5.

Yeah, that worked (starting search from the URL).  I then searched for Magnum the normal way and got the same good result.  I then played around a bit and got some hits on 9/3.  But, I still mostly get nothing after 8/23.

Seems to be no rhyme or reason to this.  I can search on a word in the body of a topic that is as of a few days ago (pavilion) and get nothing.  Or a member name with a post on 9/2 doesn't come up.

The only thing that has changed is my e-mail address, as I mentioned before.  Maybe the next buzzer to change just  e-mail address will encounter the same problems.               I appreciate that a pattern needs to be detected before any corrective action can take place.

Oh, well, pass the jam.

Thanks for trying Jeff.
