Search feature is whack

Jeff, you tell us to search for an answer to our questions before we start a new topic. I did that and no matter what I type in, I get the same results each time! Why is it doing this? Please fix it! Thanks.

Jeff has no control over what YOUR search returns. It has always worked just fine for me.

It would be nice if there was a feature to search just the post headers and a search to search the entire body of a post. It might make it easier to refine a search that way. Just a thought.

I think it brings up any topic that your term is in. Like if I searched for "Six Flags Magic Mountain", any topic that mentioned that would come up. I believe that is how it works anyway...
it doenst work so well for me either. everytime i look for something, i set it to order by topic title, and it brings up things that have absolutely nothing to do with what i entered. i have tried "all time" and even "Past Week" and it still comes up with things that im not looking for.

I have no problems with using the search engine.

"Trumpy You Can Do Magic Things...It's Called Evil Kid."

I agree that thing thing is smoking something weird...so Jeff, if there is any way to fix it in the new POP forums you're working on, please do so!
Well, one time I searched for "SFMM Architectural Drawings Spotted" because I remember that topic a while back and it ended up on like the 200th page...

What are you talking about? I just plugged that in and it's on the first page.

Folks... you need to realize that the search engine (which is actually the freetext indexing of Microsoft's SQL Server) is going to toss out common words like "the" and "it" and go with what's left. If what's left is a park or ride name, what kind of results do you suppose you'll get?

On the other hand, do a search for something like "Cliff's CCI" and you'll get exactly what you're looking for, right there.

The search engine works just fine.

OK, I have a question regarding the search. First, should I use quotes or not. For example, should it be: Cliff's CCI or "Cliff's CCI"? Or doesn't it matter?

I tried searching on "Cliff's CCI" and the first item that came up only had CCI in it not Cliff's. I've had a hard time figuring out exactly how the search works.

No, you shouldn't use quotes, not ever, because it throws them out. Cliff's appears twice in the first result.

I don't see it...

Try searching by rank... the default. If you order by title, of course it won't be on the first page.

Why is that?

Because searching by title is alphabetical, of course.
