SDC to build Celebration City in Branson

Posted | Contributed by Viper423

The Silver Dollar City Corporation (SDC) is announcing Celebration City, a new forty million-dollar, multi-faceted theme park for Branson, Missouri. The park will highlight some of the most colorful and entertaining eras of 20th Century America and is scheduled to open in late Spring 2003 on a 112-acre parcel just off Highway 76, formerly the site of Branson USA. The $40 million park will have 24 rides, including a 100-foot tall wooden coaster from Great Coasters International.

Sounds awesome!

It seems GCI is starting to build more coasters since of what happened to CCI.

Yea it seems so even thought it has only been a little less than a week. That reminds me, what do you think GCI thinks about this? Are they happy they really don't have much competition anymore or in trouble to learn that they mught be building more rides (I don't know why that would be a bad thing)? At least we have GCI as a backup.
I dont think the closing of CCI has anything to do with GCI building more coasters. When you think about it, yes, GCI hasn't built any coasters since 2000. However, they have been busy doing retracking and maintenance of existing coasters. It would seem to me that the choice for who would build this coaster was made a while back, probably before the idea of CCI closing was even thought about. I personally love GCI. And if you throw those Millenium Flyer trains on this coaster, you got a winner.

Looks pretty cool.

Steel: 1)MF, 2)Goliath, 3)Magnum
Wood: 1)Villain, 2)Beast, 3)Roar(SFMW)

Not doubting anything... but where in that press release was GCI mentioned specifically?

-----------------
I usually do not expect a very objective opinion if a coaster or park is part of the "user name"

SLFAKE - Interesting, GCI isn't mentioned specifically in this realease. They are mentioned in Amusement Business , though.

Quite possible that GCI was the contracted company from the start. Bet SDC Inc. went and rode Lightning Racer and liked the feel of the coaster and the trains.

Alrighty then.

As for CCI and GCI and SDC. You don't simply wake up one day and say, "Let's build a park." I have the strong suspicion that GCI was involved with this before CCI closed up shop.

What can I say besides, Told 'ya so! This is great. If you look at that picture, I wonder what that steel coaster is...

That steel coaster is Firestorm from the Branson park.

I like current theme ideas for this park, as well as the future theming possibilities with this park. Sounds like Missouri is becoming a pretty major state as far as coasters go.
LOL So much for the comment that wooden coasters aren't being built anymore under the CCI closing thread.

I guess they're keeping the f.storm, huh. What other rides do you think the park will get? Drop rides?

"...Wooden coasters enjoyed monumental popularity throughout much of the 20th Century. "Coaster aficionados will tell you there is nothing that compares to the clickety-clack of the wooden track and the thrill of the ride," said Bilbo..."

You damn right!

Crito, ergo sum.

Looks great! I've been on one GCI (Roar at SFA), and I thought it was awesome. In fact, it holds its own against just about any CCI I've ridden...a completely different style of ride than a CCI but still a great coaster (pun intended). Throw Millennium Flyer trains on this new coaster and it will be tempting enough that I just may have to check it out!

It's 106 miles to Indiana Beach. We've got a full tank of gas and a half-full cooler of cokes. It's light, and we're wearing Disaster Transport 3-D glasses....hit it!

Not to start a rumor or anything, but doesn't the steel coaster in that concept artwork look like a small Intamin?

And yes, I do know that it is really just an existing coaster...

Rob look at it closely. It's the Wind Storm coaster from the old park but it looks like it will be all fixed up and looking nice for the new park. I am hopeing they put on new lap bars on that Wind Storm thats padded. I didn't like the non padded ones at all.

BTW I'll be there on Opening day to get the first crack at that woodie the same way I did with WildFire. I only live 3 and half hours away from Branson and SDC is worth the trip I hope this park will be amke it even more worth it. SDC is considered to be my Home away from Home park becasue I have alot of Condo (Preatty darn good investment) time down there and Wildfire is one of my fav rides. You guys have to go to SDC this christmas and ride WildFire at night. You won't be disapointed. SDC/CC will now have stronger competition against WOF. WOF needs a new coaster bad.

Jeff, Did you forget to feed the Raptor again? That Raptor is not in a good mood. See http://www.orlandosentinal.com/business/tourism/orl-asecbirds19071902jul19.story?coll=orl%2Dbusiness%2Dheadlines%2Dtourism and you know what I mean. *** This post was edited by Sawblade5 on 7/24/2002. ***
