SD 2000 looses wheels and derails 2 injured

The pics are definitely from SD2K,I recognize the track & supports anywhere from watching the show "making of a coaster" in which that particular ride's construction & design were featured.

The report said that it happened on the 18th run of the day, there must've been some sort of stress fracture or something in the chassis or axle because you can see iin the pic that the train is not centered on the track.

One of the aritcles indicates that only one wheel was lost, one of the approsimately 12" diameter running wheels. This conflicts with the first article which said more than one wheel.

The front of the trian is definately out of alignment with the track in one of the photos. the tarps make it difficult to say much about what happened.

Did no one else see the funniest part of the article?

We got the joke it just wasn't funny or appropiate for this thread.

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!

What they mean by an out and back coaster is a full circut coaster. So TTD is actually the tallest. Shuttle coasters like Impulse coasters and Superman the Escape are not counted as out and back. Just to clear it up. I'm not trying to start anything about what is or isn't a coaster.

CP Coaster Guide Ride Count
TTD: 1; WT: 9; MF: 4; Mantis: 3; Raptor: 6; Mean Streak: 5; Magnum: 5

That would have been hilarious.......when I was 14.

Amen to that rentzy, what is sad is that we use the British System, and the brits don't even use it anymore. You would think we would at least change to an easier system, whre everything is by 10

So what's wrong with furlongs per fortnight?

No, what they meant by an out and back coaster is an out and back coaster. How do I know? Because it's accurate that way.

Don't put words into their mouths that they didn't say to make them wrong. SD2K is still the worlds tallest, fastest, out and back.

Actually, we don't use the British measurement system. We use some bits and pieces of it, but some of their units are different from our similar units. Go figure.

Still, one thing we seem to have finally learned in this country is that there is no compelling reason to change ("because the rest of the world does it" is not a compelling reason) for most purposes. That's why certain agencies which arbitrarily changed over to SI some years ago have since quietly switched back. And a couple of years ago it was clear that SI conversion was dead on the highway when the sign on IR-71 that proclaimed, "Cincinnati - 100 kilometers - 62 miles" was quietly replaced with one that says, "Cincinnati - 62 miles".

Anyway, I haven't seen the photos yet, but if the train did in fact derail, then the loss of a wheel carrier assembly (four to six wheels) seems most likely. Anybody know off hand how many road wheels SD2K has per wheel set (one or two)? I know it has dual guide wheels...

Hell, doesn't every coaster go out and come back?

Only if the wheels stay on. :)

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

The Bristish beat all as they use both systems of measurement at the same time. Nothing like getting MILES per LITRE of gas. ;)

It has 2 road wheels per assembly.
