The report said that it happened on the 18th run of the day, there must've been some sort of stress fracture or something in the chassis or axle because you can see iin the pic that the train is not centered on the track.
The front of the trian is definately out of alignment with the track in one of the photos. the tarps make it difficult to say much about what happened.

No, what they meant by an out and back coaster is an out and back coaster. How do I know? Because it's accurate that way.
Don't put words into their mouths that they didn't say to make them wrong. SD2K is still the worlds tallest, fastest, out and back.

Still, one thing we seem to have finally learned in this country is that there is no compelling reason to change ("because the rest of the world does it" is not a compelling reason) for most purposes. That's why certain agencies which arbitrarily changed over to SI some years ago have since quietly switched back. And a couple of years ago it was clear that SI conversion was dead on the highway when the sign on IR-71 that proclaimed, "Cincinnati - 100 kilometers - 62 miles" was quietly replaced with one that says, "Cincinnati - 62 miles".
Anyway, I haven't seen the photos yet, but if the train did in fact derail, then the loss of a wheel carrier assembly (four to six wheels) seems most likely. Anybody know off hand how many road wheels SD2K has per wheel set (one or two)? I know it has dual guide wheels...
