An off-duty corrections officer for the Department of Juvenile Justice has been charged with attacking a costumed Scooby Doo character for no apparent reason at Universal Studios Florida last Friday.

You might be surprised by how often this kind of stuff happened. For fun reading I recommend the book: "Moust Tales: A behind the scenes look at Disneyland." It is a collection of stories related to guest behavior, cast behavior, crime, lawsuits, etc at the "happiest place on earth."

But, having worked at several different parks I can tell you that these same stories could come from anywhere.

We get a story like this it seems a couple of times a year. I don't get it. I admit a subtle urge to want to tackle a costumed character because it would be funny, sure, but why would you want to beat one up?
I've had an urge to beat up Mickey Mouse for years now. "No apparent reason"? What does that mean? A giant obnoxious cartoon character is reason enough!
Ohhh, i see, you guys just aren't reading it properly. He was only trying to PET the character on the top of the head. See, you guys didn't read it close enough. Tackling and hitting the character was a sign of affection. I mean, come on, it's scooby dooby doooooooooo. Now if it was Scrappy Doo, well then, i'd definitly pound the crap outta him, the little puke!! Actually, when we had Maple Leaf Village here in Niagara Falls, the first year i was there our mascot was Garfield the cat. There were a few times some of us ride ops. had to get involved to drag people off the girl who wore the suit. She had a single employee with her for guidance, but offered no protection from the ravages of morons. man how i miss that place. Anywho, just my thoughts.

Jeepers!
Perhaps he had smoked, err...I mean eaten...a few too many scooby snacks before getting to the park that day.

There is a story in Mouse Tales, I think, of a pig getting stabbed through his/her rubber suit.

I love his plea, I was only trying to put him on top of his head, lol.
Costumed characters can be big time asses. I was at a Sox game a few years ago, and I kind of half accidently leaned my 160 pounds into this big green mascot Wally, and he slapped me pretty hard right in the stomach. Needless to say, I stared him down pretty hard (and then ran away!).
Scooby had it coming. He shows up for work late, if ever. He is not housebroken. Have you ever seen what he does after eating green eggs and ham? And he will not wear a flea collar.
Nobody's made the obvious "would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids" comment yet?
This wouldn't have happened if Scoobie didn't always go off on his own with just Shaggy. Shouldn't they have learned by now that they need to stay together?

I definitely have the same urge to takle all mascotts. Has anyone seen that mascott fight on TV? They really get into it.

Remember, these aren't isolated incidents, people are whackos...remember both Cookie Monster and Telly (i believe it was Telly) at Sesame Place? Both were attacked there as well...
What about the attendants who accompany the characters?
Did scooby yell out "rut roo raggy"but serously I can't see them taking this to courtthey will plead it down to a misdemenor and let him pay a fine.Their is no way they will take this to a jury trail costing thousands of dollars.because even if he is convicted their is no way he will get jail time.I can see some shyster "My client was traumatised byscooby doo at a young age".If they can't keep child molesters and killers beind bars.are they gonna put some guy who slugged scooby doo in jail.

It never seems to amaze me how stupid people really are...

As a die-hard scooby doo fan: This is jacked up! I know at PKI and at other parks they have escorts to walk with the characters why wasnt one with scooby at USF?

I know guests can be major asses aswell you guys have no clue how hard it is to walk and see in those costumes!

I just hope the jerk-off who hit scooby lands in jail and gets banned from USF & IOA,USH.

Zoiks!
People are nuts.. I wonder what the people around thought. Heh.
Maybe the guy was sympathizing with Red Herring, and wanted to 'get even' with Scooby?
