Scared of heights???

I am scared of heights but only if I am not in a structure or on something I feel is safe and stable. I love coasters and free falls and most other rides. I even attended Air Assault (repelling from a helicopter) and Airborne (Sky diving) training in the Army but I can not climb a ladder or stand on a roof. I would even be scared of a walk down but I could tough it out if I had to.

I also know of many enthusiasts that are fine with heights, but dislike falling. At last years IAAPA, quite a few of us got to sample the SCAD tower. While I love heights and falling, I can easily see why someone would not want to give that contraption a ride.It was a very scary thing to do.

I saw a few people back out once they reached the top of the 120-foot crane and they have every right to do so. I don't think anyone was complaining when seeing people back down considering the nature of the attraction.

Both the links below offer some cool footage of the SCAD tower in action.

It's the ones I haven't ridden that scare the crap out of me. Don't really know where this fear of heights came from. When I was 5, I was tall enough to ride the "big people's" coasters and loved it, and never gave it another thought. Some years later though, it was the drag me on kicking and screaming bit. I think that was after I realized that " a fall from that height could kill ya!"

I always said, " When your young, God gives ya more guts than brains." Thank goodness I still have a good protion of the former.

Now, a big coaster will scare the crap out of me, but after the first ride, I'm all good, and wanna ride it all day. Coasters I've been on before don't scare me. I guess it's the "new" thing. After the first time, even though I acted like a big wuss, I'm like "been there, done that". Except LNM at BGW. That coaster just plain freaks me out. I think it has something to so with the fact I've had a recurring dream that I fall out of it for the last 4 years. Then a couple of years ago, while on it, we stopped almost at the top of the lift and we sat there for like 15 minutes. I was like white as a ghost when I got off, and haven't been on it since. I took it as an omen.

I could ride coasters, planes, go on balconies but a ride have never terrified me as much as a ferris wheel I got on at Rye Playland. The ferris wheel don't really scare me when it stops at the top but when it stops on the side it begin to shake a lot and you don't have lap bars or seat belts but if you wanna hold on something you got to reach for a bar in the middle of the car and when you reach for it the car starts to shake.

The only time I've ever been frightened on a ride is when riding the Ferris wheel at Coney Island (Cincinnati). Believe it or not, it's the only "bench" style wheel I've ever ridden, and I did not like the fact that the cars moved every time you moved. You could tip it soooo far forward.

Of course once I got over being scared, I rocked way forward to scare my wife. Repeatedly. ;)
