Scared of heights???

I have never realized I was afraid of hieghts untill my Son and I were at Cedar Point and rode Power Tower. Got on ... Zipped up, came back down...then rode the shoot down side. I saw my Son looking around the shoulder restraints and started laughing as he relized I WAS TERRIFIED. Never before have I ridden a freefall straight drop. I loved the first generation freefalls, but this for some reason scared the poop outta me. Rode it three times, and still...well...

I love coasters, im not really afraid of hights, i love Millennium Force and all hypercoasters or gigacoasters, but it just hits me in my stomach, i get an aquared feeling. But as i rode more and more coasters, that fear and feeling stopped accuring. I guess riding Millennium Force broke my fear for good.

I'm terrified of heights....Especially with the Evilist of contraptions, the Wheel from Ferris ! I get alittle nervous on the lift hill of coasters ( try looking backwards on a lift hill ) but I guess it just adds to the excitment to the coaster when you soar downhill

Nope, I looooove heights. I am still waiting for the day when I get stuck and have to walk down a lift. And I could stay on top of an observation tower for hours. Last time I was at SFMM I stayed at the top of the tower for 1.5 hours just looking around.

Ferris Wheels... white knuckles...

One of the last times I rode the giant wheel thingy at hershey park, a friend and i were paired into a cage with two really overweight ladies. The cage was dipping to one side the whole time. We all chit chatted and it helped to keep me from being completely scared out of my mind -- first due to the height of the ride, second due to the interesting strain on our cage.

I have always been super afraid of heights. The first time I was on Raging Bull I looked straight ahead all the way up the lift not wanting to look around. Now that one doesnt bother me. Same thing on M-Force. I cannot ride drop rides because of the fear factor of heights. Ferris Wheels either. I also have yet to ride an impulse and the thought of the heights is really scaring me for that one. Especially the holding brake. My wife wonders what is my deal because I will not go on the ferris wheels with her but I will go on the tallest, fastest, and steepest coasters around.

Also, my Dad is even worse with heights yet he will ride the occasional coaster or two and have no problem with it. This is the same person the family darn near needs to drug to get him on an airplane.

I only have a fear of heights if I feel unsafe. Like if I am climbing a tree on a windy day, and the whole tree is swaying, then I am scared. But general heights if I am safe, I am cool with it. I love going to Chicago to goto the Sears Tower and the John Hancock Building to goto their observation decks. On coasters, I love the view you get.

I HATE SNOW!!! I am boycotting snow, I refuse to have fun in it.

Anyone ever try the Glass Floor at the CN Tower in Toronto? I can handle heights, but standing on a floor and being able to look 1,110 feet straight down, all while a group of little kids are jumping up and down on it is a bit unnerving. I read somewhere that the glass used is 6 feet thick and could support a few elephants (I wonder how they know that info...), but it's still one of the scariest feelings I have experienced!

I too am scared of heights, but not on coasters. Balconies are my biggest fear. My friend has a balcony over looking his living room, I can but hate to look over the edge. I went to Gatlinburg once and the observation tower was alright as long as I didn't get near the edge. Yet, the Effiel Tower was ok because it had a fence from floor to ceiling.

Coasters and heights are alright, but Power Tower still scares me one the way up.

Ray: I dont remember the "glass floor" bit, but the ride up in the "Great Glass Wonkavator" was enough to require an immediate pit stop upon arrival. I mean I loved the view from the revolving restaurant (we went just about dusk) but I will *always* be scared of heights. That *immersion therapy* crap doesnt work. I ride roller coaster. I *fly* to get to them. Hell, I even went skydiving. None of that changes the fact that I can be standing on a third floor porch and start shaking uncontrolably.

I remember going up on the Stratosphere outside deck. Going out the door I made the mistake of looking up at the roller coaster track above me and got instant vertigo and I ended up plastering myself up against the wall and needed help going back through the door inside. Meanwhile, my non-coaster riding wife strolls right up to the rail and is looking straight down. Needless to say, I did not ride the High Roller or the freefall ride up there.

I also remember going to the real Eiffel Tower in Paris. I took the elevator up to the second stage of the tower and not the very top. Anyways somehow the power went down or something and I had to walk down the stairs to the ground. I still get the shakes to this day thinking about it.

I used to be afraid of heights. Then I conquered Millennium Force twice. That took the fear away. Now roller coaster heights don't scare me anymore. The only things that still scare me are drop rides. Boom. Those terrify me. Even little ones that are 100 ft. tall.

I am terrified of heights, so much that my palms sweat just climbing my lemon tree. But rollercoasters and drop rides have always been a safe way to confront that fear. I think that's where the addiction come in for me. I need that rush, that rush and adrinaline that comes with facing fears. I'm hooked on that feeling.

Have you ever considered that maybe it's not the park that's the problem, but YOU?

It's amazing to see the number of coaster enthsiasts who are afraid of heights. I get dizzy from swaying ladders and looking down from an open area (like glass elevators that go over six stories and I can look straight down).

Yet, I've been on many types of coasters and enjoy every second of them. Freefalls and power drops are also exciting, though I get nervous on the first gens at the top. As long as I don't look straight down, I'm fine.

Best guess is that I feel comfortable in the restraint system, since bungee jumping nad Ripcords just are not rides I go near. Even the Huss Jump and Evolution at SFGAdv were no problem, though when the Condor was there (think of a Scrambler that rose up 100 feet and then came back down) I get nervous at the top. Ferris Wheels are okay, but the gondola type scares me if I'm by myself. The tilting just makes me nervous, and pics I took from the one at Cedar Point were from the exact center of one side of the gondola.

I am so afraid of heights. Even standing on a patio five stories up gives me a good scare. Personally, my fear of heights only enhances the moment when on a tall coaster. My fear is the worst, the first time I ride. Every ride after that I am much better. I give you the example of my Kennywood Pittfall count as an example. The first couple of times I was scared to death but every ride after that, all 250 times, my fear faded. Every now and then I can feel it coming back but you are never up there long enough to really have it effect you.

I'm with you on that Mike. Needless to say, the Stratosphere tower in Vegas is quite an ordeal for me. But the more I'm afraid, the more I absolutely *must* do it! I must speak in front of a large audience, I must ask for that raise at work, I must put that snake around my neck or jump out of a plane. It drives me crazy to back down from anything, I use fear as a serious motivation.

used to be, but after MF nothing is too big. But for some reason i freak out on arrow hypers because the lift is so long

HurricaneGeauga- Just in case

I don't have any fear of heights. I was on DejaVu when it valleyed!! It was awesome!
I didn't realize that so many were afraid of heights either. I can't stand tall buildings. I went in the CN Tower once, never again. Reunion Tower in Dallas once, never again. I've only recently started to really enjoy coasters but my fear of heights tends to keep off the really big ones. So, I'm slowly working my way up. I rode the Superman: Krypton Coaster at SF:Fiesta Texas on Sunday. It's my highest one so far. I plan on riding Titan at SF:Over Texas this summer. I think that should cure me if I can actually force myself to do it.
