Save the Beastie @ PKI

Kings Island Park Representatives have stated that the Beastie will be renamed and re-themed as a Fairly Odd Parents Coaster. The Beastie and its bigger brother have been unique to Kings Island and A staple in the park for over 25 years and I feel it would be a great loss to re-theme this classic. Please sign you Name and E-mail address to this petition (Link Below), as I will be sending it to Kings Island Management on a weekly bases.

I hate to tell you this but you're wasting your time, Marz. Your enthusiasm is appreciated but the name change is a done deal.

I would have to agree with Mamoosh on this one. For the marketing angle that they are going for with the new Nickelodeon Universe, it makes sense to rename Beastie. Really it is only a name change! At least the coaster will still be there!!! ;)

Personally I really don't care what it is called, I still like the ride.

Wow, the preservation thing now goes as far as to save the name of a ride.

I personally would like it changed. Beastie means nothing to me. My kids will be slightly more amused to ride the Odd Parents coaster than they ever would have been to ride Beastie.

If it makes it seem more special to them when we visit this June, then I'm all for it.

I'm sure PKI management will appreciate the constant meaningless e-mails though. :)

Oh boy another petition. Yippie. *** Edited 1/20/2006 9:05:41 PM UTC by Trick Track***
If you really want to save the Beastie, why not petition the park to replace the missing speed hill before the brake run? ;)
I honestly would like to know the rationalization behind this petition. While I'm one of those people who believes that almost every petition is futile, at least most of them deal with something that physically change the ride experience. PKI is simply changing the name of the ride and possibly adding characters to the train or station--how does that change the ride? So what if the ride has been a staple at the park for 25 years--it's the same ride! Does a coat of paint and a few cardboard character cutouts change the legacy of a ride?
Maybe Cosmo and Wanda can help.
Plus, neither the name or layout is unique to PKI. We let it go when PKD renamed and repainted Scooby Doo (Though thankfully it kept part of its name then).
I'm with the 'lets be glad this great ride will stay' camp

Wasn't the Beastie first called the Scoobie Doo anyway?

My blog You said, "I'm gonna run you down." I heard, "I'm an orangutan."
BINGO! The orignal name of the coaster was Scooby Doo and it was yellow. It was changed to the Beastie when the park was naming all of their coasters 1 word monster names after the Beast was built...........the Bat, Screamin' Demon was change do the Demon, and then the Beastie.

The name Beastie never did go with Hanna-Barbera Land. The yellow paint job was always more attractive than the purple paint job.

The new name is horrible, but so was Beastie IMO.

If you want a petition to send them. Why don't you try to have them move the garbage dumpsters from behind the ride to get rid of the awful smell. Smells great on a 95 degree day!!!!!!!!

The Golden Rule - Try it once and if you don't like you don't have to go on again!
Change is a part life Marz! We've known that this change was coming for a long time. At least one other Paramount park, (I believe Carowinds), made the name change last season. Marketing the coaster after the FOP will give it a whole new lease on life...introduce the coaster to a whole new generation. It'll still run the same, just with a new theme and color(s) Petition away...but unfortunately it won't change a thing.

Now officially a Halloween Haunt Cornstalker for Fall '08! www.freewebs.com/chadmicah
I've worked with the layout for Nick Universe and seen all the themeing changes. Fairly Odd Coaster is a done deal, as well as several other HBL-to-Nickelodeon conversions.

And others are correct, the Beastie was originally themed after Scooby Doo. Check the original park map, a copy of which I believe is hanging in the PKI nurse's station.

Well there is some rationalation in saving the name. Kids feel cool saying I rode The Beastie! and since they cannot ride the Big Ones. It still sounds big. At least for them.

Sadly, Your way late on any chance as succeeding in this. Im almost positive by now all themeing and signage are gone and probably a good deal of the new stuff is underway.

Why is a move like this being made?

Because of last week's top 10 watched shows on basic cable, 7 of them were Nickelodeon shows.

That's not a certain child demographic, that's of all people watching all shows on all of basic cable.

Fairly Oddparents is the highest rated cartoon with only Spongebob even coming close. Think about it, more people watch Oddparents than even watch Spongebob. (On a per show basis)

Which do you think PKI would do better with? The generic name of "Beastie" or a ride themed to the most watched cartoon on television?

A couple thoughts...First, the Beast had a lot of mystique that allowed it to carry the names of two other coasters. It seems some of that is now lost for whatever reason. Second, I was not happy when PKD changed Scooby Doo's name and color. It is their coaster and they can do what they want with it...and I can still call it Scooby Doo. ;)

Thats because Gramke maintains Beast.

Only if they repaint it, too! ;)
