Rude monsters!

Was at SFGAm this saturday with another family that mine is friends with. Anyhow, a 10 year old girl from the other family was jumped out at by a monster. Joking around, she said "ugly nose!" or something. So he says "Hey, I get paid to look ugly. What's your excuse?" She cried for like an hour after that. It was funny and rude at the same time.

Anyone ever have a similar experience with park characters like that?

I said something along those lines to someone who punched me in the gut at the Cedar Point haunted house. Scaring people is fun, but its just not worth it since you get beat up every night (literally)

Hahahahah great line! Probably shouldn't have said it but I would have laughed if I was there. :)

Brett - Did you ever get people thrown out for that?

"It's no party at the park, either."

They tell you if you report the people they'll get tossed, but when you're in a full black hood, its hard to nail down what someone looks like and even harder to get the message to someone in charge before the person's back out into the park. It's pretty much a losing battle for the monsters. I've taken two or three shots to the face, and three or four to the gut in my two weekends over the last two years, but the worst was this past Halloweekends, I had a 45 year old woman with two 10ish kids in tow come around my corner (I was a dot person so I was a moving wall more than a jumping monster) look right at me and say "Oh, hello!" and promtly wind up and punch me right in the jaw. Saw stars for a good hour after that one and I felt pretty stupid that I got beat up by an old lady - worse for her kids though ...

Thats horrible, I would never imagine someone would punch you cause you scared them. Thats the point of going to a haunted place , to get scared, thats horrible.

Family Guy: "Oh no,Oh no, Oh no, Oh no, Oh yeah"

Wait she just randomly decided to hit you? WTF? Who does that?

I'm sure they get that all the time. They must be used to it

Well. the girl shouldn't have said anything, and it woudn't have happened. Plus, most of the characters make those comebacks anyhow. If you can't be scared by them, they'll just try to make up stupid randome stuff. It just depends on how one person can take it. She obviously couldn't, others, like myself, would have been able to.

Right. A 10 year old says, "You've got an ugly nose!" to someone in a full costume, and it's her fault for the rude behavior of the *customer-service-oriented* employee? A 10 year old?

Hot stuff.

Seriously. They are monsters, what do you expect? I was a monster myself back in the day for Knott's, and believe me, we got comments like that all the time. Stupid questions and comments all of the time. Hence the "rude" response like the one above. Like I said, we are monsters, we customer service and friendliness isn't really our game.

And being pushed and hit is really the norm. Its honestly (and sadly) part of the job. It does suck, but believe me, people that do that get some pretty harsh penalties, like being kicked out or even arrested for assault!

Yea, tell me about it ... WTF is right. Will, she wasn't even scared by me! She came around the corner and instantly recognized me and just wound up ... furthering my belief that all humanity is s**t.

It doesn't matter how much you get it, you don't get used to being popped by guests. My girlfriend went back two weeks later and some guy got in her face, told her she wasn't scary, punched her then asked her what she was going to do about it. I hate people ... and this is all at the semi-family oriented, don't-touch-the-monsters-they-won't-touch-you Cedar Point.

Um, hello? She's 10 years old. She was joking, and was giggling like a 10 year old girl when she said it. I don't see how a goofy comment can turn into such a rude reply.

In my book, you say something rude, expect it to come back ten-fold... Kaldaim, I think you are over-reacting.

I'm sure both sides will have some argument to put up. For example, my friend said a monster hit his mom. Who knows the whole story? It's not going to end, so stop trying.

Yeah you guys are right. It's perfectly OK for a 30 year old to make a 10 year old girl cry because she made a joke about his fake nose.
Why do people expect monsters to be nice?? They are not the friendly dippin dots salesperson, they aren't the kindly parking attendants.

They are monsters. Their primary job is to be scary and if that entails a little bit of mean humor, so be it.

This is not mickey mouse making fun of a 10 year old girl. This is a monster.

And if that argument doesn't appeal to anyone, I think its time to get a sense of humor. Just like the girl wasn't serious, I get the impression that the monster was joking as well. Yes, a sense of humor (and perhaps a bit of common sense) goes a long way....

I think that's a perfectly appropriate comment for a Fright Fest character. They're not supposed to be customer-service oriented.

They are monsters...they are there to scare people...if someone said something rude to a monster (just like egging on a comedian), you have to expect the same in return. Don't jump into the fire if you can't take the heat.

Regardless, whatever happened to the phrase "sticks and stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"? My father would have pulled me aside and told me I was being ridiculous to cry for an hour over something so trivial.

At Great America one of the monsters stole a girl's stuffed toy that she had won and were running around the park with it while she was chasing them. It was hilarious! I don't have a problem with monsters doing things to me or other around me, in fact it makes the park just a little more interesting and fun to be at because not everyone is nice to you. You have to be on your guard while you are there or you will be scared by someone!

There is a restaurant that I can't think of the name of, but their whole thing is that they treat you like crap. I tried getting in while down in South Carolina and found out there was a two hour wait to get in! Some of us like to be insulted I guess! Either way though, even if you don't like it you should not punch someone.

What makes you think the guy was 30? I don't know about Six Flags specifically, but most of CP's monsters are college kids, and from what I saw of the staff at SFWoA that was left yesterday, they're the same age or younger.

Becca: I believe that restaurant is just called Dick's.
