Rodriguez sets new coaster riding endurance record

Posted | Contributed by Joe Carroll

Chicago man Richard Rodriguez survived 104 consecutive days on Holiday Park's Expedition GeForce in Germany. While the five-minute breaks every hour excluded him from breaking his record with Guinness, he breaks his record set last year on The Boss at Six Flags St. Louis.

I'd still like to see how long he'd last on Psyclone....ROFL....;)

Hey, maybe he doesn't have a wife or kids or pets.

And after 104 days on an coaster, he may never.
It must be nice to have the time, and money for that matter, to actually even consider riding a roller coaster for a 104 straight freakin days.......
I wonder if you could get sponsoring for riding every coaster in the world that's not defunct or sbno. It would be kinda hard to ride coasters like The Bat and Soap Box Derby Racers. Hmm....any takers on this world record attempt?

Is it a dream or a memory? It's both, it's X

the only way i would ever think of doing something like this is for charity.

raging bull comes to mind.

while i was at it i would change seats every hour so i can say i have ridin in every seat on every train. apx.108 seats

Hmmmm...I must say I am rather disappointed in some of my fellow coaster enthusiast and their "get a life" attitudes about Richard.

Considering that many people out there would say "get a life" about the average coaster enthusiast just traveling all over to ride different coasters, (or playing RCT, or collecting coaster postcards, or whatever...) I would think some of you would lighten up a little. I really don't think any of us are in a position to criticize...unless perhaps this is coming from jealousy? (Hey...I'm a little green myself..Expedition Geforce is a KICK ASS ride!) :)

The GP was very excited by Richard and what he was doing. And so was the park, with lots of banners and promo material all over the park. Anything that draws attention to and supports our hobby and the parks ought to be applauded, not condemned. And if it brings people to Holiday Park and allows them to build more great rides like the one Richard rode, then I'm all for it.

You don't see a difference between spending three and a half months of your life riding a coaster and normal vacationing? I wish I had your life.

As fanatical as I am about coasters, I could not ride my favorite coaster for 104 days.God, my wife, my kids and my job are bigger priorities.Pastimes and hobbies, while important to ones'wellbeing, should not become before your obligations to the above.

I can fix anything.....where is the duct tape?

A lot of pictures and a report (sorry: it's in German) can be found here:

I say good for him. Richard is an extremest in the true sence of the word. Do I want to try to break his record? No way. For reasons like other people have mentioned, job, family, cat. If this is what floats his boat (or more importantly, his bank account), than more power to him, no need to bash the guy for his obsession.

The really odd thing is, Richard will probably ride some coaster 105 days in a row next summer, just to break his own record. Seems like an unnecessary action.

Those Germans know how to party. It seems there are always cheerleaders at these big coaster events.

I was in college/fraternity with Richie and occasionally come across his latest coaster record. Yes, he is all about the challenge (don't forget his "nemesis", Norman St. Pierre) but when I knew him he was a great guy to be around, always in great shape and cool to be around. Very good ping-pong player as well although I have taken him for some games and had some good ego matches with him myself! I've seen him with some great looking women but last I knew he was still single and the perpetual student. This is his thing and I know he has raised some good cash for charity organizations - so who cares - he likes what he's doing...'nuff said. Hopefully, someday I'll get to take a spin on one of his rides with him...good luck, Richie!
