Rodriguez sets new coaster riding endurance record

Posted | Contributed by Joe Carroll

Chicago man Richard Rodriguez survived 104 consecutive days on Holiday Park's Expedition GeForce in Germany. While the five-minute breaks every hour excluded him from breaking his record with Guinness, he breaks his record set last year on The Boss at Six Flags St. Louis.

Lunatic is the correct word. I love a good coaster as much as the next guy but 104 days? No way!
I met this guy last year on the Boss and let me say this guy doesnt know when to quit. He's like a machine. If he can ride the boss for a hundred straight days he can ride anything.

No kidding ! I met him on the Boss last year too.

I would think he could be qualified as an "expert" He should testify before congress against Markey, that coaster riding is safe, even in extreme conditions.

Oooh, we've arrived fellow coaster geeks! If Salon is covering us, you know we've got to be cool. ;)

Interesting that his field in psycology. Maybe he's studying obsessive behavior. :)

Wow! That's a long time. He was riding that coaster when I was at the park in July. He even rode with us during ERT.

I hate to say it, but dude, get a life. I mean, I tend to value my wife, friends, pets and even stupid stuff like a video game and movie now and then. Three and a half months of my life would be better spent doing virtually anything.

Whatever makes him happy.
What ever floats your boat, if he chooses to do so then so be it. Your not the one doing it, so I don’t really see the problem here. It’s his life; he can live it how he chooses.

I enjoyed his last statement. Before I go do anything else. He says I think I will catch one more ride. A true coaster enthusiast.

It has nothing to do with what he chooses to do... it's still my opinion that it's a total waste of time. Who cares if anyone disagrees. You know what Jeremy says about opinions...

I know it's your oppinion but sorry Jeff, i disagree.

Hey, maybe he doesn't have a wife or kids or pets. He obviously loves roller coasters and will get a lot of publicity for what he's been doing. I just saw it last night on my local news!

How many people can say "Yeah I rode a roller coaster non-stop for 104 days." Life is all about living on the edge, taking risks and doing something that no one else has ever done.

-----------------
"Life is like a roller coaster; there are ups and downs and it's over all too fast."

to rentzy's statement about the wife, kids, pets, etc... Even if he doesn't have a wife, kids, or pets, its still nuts. 104 days on a coaster? Don't worry about a wife, kids or pets... mainly he needs to get a life.

Joe Carrol said that this guy now "qualifies as an expert" and could testify that coasters do not cause brain damage as Markey et al claim. Personally, I don't think anyone who has spent 104 days of doing nothing but riding a coaster should testify about anything even bordering on brain damage. Okay... well, may be not brain damage... but I surely would not want him to testify on "mental stability."

I was going to ask "what does this guy do that he can get that time off", but I re-read the article and I see that he is a doctoral student in psychology. Oh, man... there's got to be a good joke or two there.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name" *** This post was edited by SLFAKE on 9/4/2002. ***

This guy is freaking nuts!

"He obviously loves roller coasters"

I would tend to disagree: I believe that he just wants publicity.

I happen to like coasters; and because of this fact, I sure wouldn't spend 3 months on the same one. My God, if you had three months to spend coastering in Europe, wouldn't you wanna go to more than one park, let alone be on more than one coaster at that park?

I'd suggest "idiot" over "lunatic," but we could argue semantics all day.

That's would be so awesome!!!! I'd do it if i could get sponsored, cause im poor and cant afford to do it!!!

He is an idiot......

Hes insane ill give him that lol.

Everyone has differant agendas in life... his is just a little wierder than everyone elses lol. THat guy who supposadly held his hand up for 25 years :S (its in the 2000 GBoR if anyone cares) i can think of millions of better things to do lol maybe hes setting himself a challenge in life something he wants to keep breaking, i Give him credit for haveing some sort of aim lol. even if i fail to understand how he can physically survive..

Maybe he IS a robot :p

How can you be able to stay on a coaster that long? I mean how will the park let you?

Heck I'd do it! I've even asked to do it on The Beast but PKI doesn't allow that kinda stuff. Day and night marathoning.
