I just watched a documentary on Evel a couple weeks ago, I believe it was on the History channel, anyway Evel Knievel would in fact have had it that way. Robbie didn't want to do jumps with a safety ramp to begin with, but his father convinced him of it. They both agreed that it could save their lives if something went wrong.

True but the safety ramp is also what put Evel in a barrel roll down the ramp and out the exit of Wimbley. He hit it short, Bounced off the bike and proceeded to roll and get run over by the bike for about a hundred yards.

10 years ago he would have jumped 15 trucks. Today, he jumps 15 Coke Zero trucks. At least they weren't Comcast...

Yeah I asked team knievel about this before they came to KI. They said that Robbie is doing his from a 10' ramp to 10' ramp. Not dirt and not that easy either. Interesting note.
