Robbie Knievel jumping 15 of the 24 Coke Zero Trucks

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=34720745

He started at 8 then went to 10,12 then fifteen and jumped each distance four or five times. He even did the fifteen with a no hander once. I have much more video and pics and no time to post as Im off to HWN

Enjoy
Chuck, the no fun guy :)

So here's a few quick pics from the jump:

Robbie Knievel

Robbie greets the crowd

The Jump (I don't count 24 trucks, but as far as I can tell they were still selling it as a 24-truck jump)

Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams - apparently he hangs with Robbie Knievel...who knew?)

I took a gazillion pics today. I'll have them online or a TR or something soon enough.

He did jump 24. There are 6 you cant see the front of because there was a safety ramp covering the top of the last 6 incase he didn't make it all the way. When he jumped he did in fact clear, not by much, all 24 trucks.

Hmmm. I see.

^^Yeah, so if you look at that jump shot you took, Gonch, I'm guessing the black box looking "thingy" (to quote a word you love) is the remaining 6 trucks, but covered by a ramp in case he couldn't clear them all...

But honestly, would Evel have had it that way?!?! I'm guessing NO!!, and he probably rolled over in his grave once or twice at that notion!

Yeah, the rest of the trucks were under the safety deck at the end. Smart move really, considering the length.
He didn

t jump 24 trucks, he jumped 24 Freghtliner tractors!

The jump path doesn't go over the trailers.

Coaster Junkie from NH
I drive in & out of Boston, so I ride coasters to relax!

Here's a video of the jump on cnn.com. If you look carefully at about 26 seconds in, you can see the remaining trucks hidden by the tarp or whatever.

Gonch - was yesterday your first time out shooting with the XSi? If so, what are your thoughts? *** Edited 5/25/2008 2:10:56 PM UTC by Jeff Young***

A lot like the XT with a couple of buttons in different places. ;)

I thought the thread was about him jumping 15 trucks then going splat into #16.
Robbie had mentioned a little earlier in the week on a radio interview about the safety ramp. He was confident about the jump, but he and his dad had incidents where they fell short and did headers into the ramp. Just a precautionary measure. He still made the record.

I don't blame him, if I were in that situation, I think I'd do it too. Who really wants to die for their profession?

Yeah, I get that. But doesn't that go against the very idea of being a 'daredevil' of any kind? If there's no risk, then all you're doing is jumping a motorcycle x number of feet. Screw the theatrics and just measure off a distance and try to clear it - and line the entire area with fluffy pillows and air bags.

Big difference between what Evel made a career of and the jump that I saw yesterday. The whole point of Evel's career was that he could die trying a ridiculous feat. The risk is the point.

Gonch got an XSi, too?

I just sold my 10D, and instead of going with the 40, I went with the XSi. I'm happy with it, so far. I have yet to actually take it out and do anything serious with it yet, though.

We'll see how it goes this week.

Josh

Isn't SFSL missing the boat on this if they don't get him to do the same stunt or better in Eureka for the opening of their new coaster?
He's going to be doing a jump there soon, July I believe.
Thanks for posting the Actuals jump. I only counted 23 thursday but I could be wrong as well. Anyhow, It was impressive. In the press release he said KI and Wimbley were his last two jumps planned. He might be apearing or something for SFSL but I don't know if there is a jump planned at least probably not a major one.
Chuck
man, He landed hard even for a bike with 16 inches of shock travel. Only once in the practice jumps did he come anywhere close to bouncing the bike on the landing.

Awesome. Granted the distance record is a full 80ft longer its a honor to his father. He'd been trying to get the jump here for three or four years but Paramount wouldn't bite.

Thanks CF.

After looking at those pictures its a good thing he had the safety ramp because he didn't clear the 24th truck.
