Robb Alvey's Coaster Season 2002

I'm sure there will be a way to fit more video on a DVD in decent quality and like Robb said it'll probably involve looking at each segment one at a time to see if it's okay. I think the first DVD I made was made at around 5.5k. Some parts of the video looked okay, but where there was a lot of motion in didn't look that great. I didn't think of reducing the resolution, I guess I need to give that a try. I was also just using the encoder built in to my editing software which I know probably isn't the greatest. I'll check out a couple of the other ones mentioned here.

I was surprised when I bought my DVD burner and found out making movies on DVD wasn't as easy as it seemed......

Where can you get DVDR's for around $0.50? And are they +R or -R?

I agree, even if the video isn't quite DVD quality the fact that it won't wear out and lose quality over time would still be a benefit of going to DVDs. If video quality was going to be less than VHS though, I'd rather have a VHS copy.

Jason, they're DVD-R. From allmediaoutlet.com.
I'd try TMPG Enc first.

It should be better than VHS. BTW, SVHS can be better than some of the retail DVDs sold.
But my point was even if it's only as good as VHS, you still have the durability, and ease of access to tracks, no rewind, etc.

Thanks for the link. I need DVD+R and it looks like I can get them for about the same price at Best Buy on sale as they have them for on that site.

I'll give TMPG Enc a try.

Just saw in Best Buy today spindles of 50 Fuji DVD+R blank discs for $99. At $2 a pop now, it makes the whole testing process a LOT less expensive! Ok, enough of this DVD stuff, back to the US 2002 videos (just finished the Lakemont/DelGrossos segment tonight!)

(can't WAIT to do the commentary on the ECO video!) =)

I'd like to know what a good External DVD+RW drive is. Any help is appreciated.Thanks.

I have the HP DVD200i (internal) drive and love it. Seems the HP's have gotten better reviews than some of the other drives at least in the research I did before my purchase. HP also makes this drive in a external version and I'd be willing to bet it is pretty good.

Sony has a DVD+R/-R/+RW/-RW drive out now....don't know if they have an external version of it though.

Jason

Not at Best Buy or Circuit City which are the only places I will buy electronics. I might go with the HP...its $450 which is a little on the steep side. What should I do? 4.0MP Sony Digital Camera or DVD+RW drive? I'm split in half...can't decide.

The external models are usually $100 or so more than the internal models from what I've seen. I paid $350 for the internal model at Best Buy. If I didn't have either items and could only choose 1, I'd go with the digital camera. But that's me....I enjoy taking photos.

Jason

I think I'm gonna stick with my camera. In the end its just more useful to me. But...I might start doing DVD+R later next year when the price drops.

Good choice with the camera...plus DVD burners should continue to drop in price as more manufactures get on board.

I have held off so far...but think I might have to get myself one for Christmas.
