Robb Alvey's Coaster Season 2001video

I might as well throw my $0.02 in on Robb's video since I never got the chance to on RRC!

Let me first state that Robb and Elissa are both good personal friends of mine, and I had the privelage of hanging out with them at SFGAd, Lake Compounce, Knoebels, Dorney, and Holiday World this year, (not to mention being featured in a "most excellent" video!)

As for any controversy surrounding the video, including the supposed "standing" at Knoebels, Disneyland, etc, the Goliath jokes, the PKI ripping (my Cedar Point segment in my video is quite similar ;) ), "too much Elissa (!?!?), on-ride video shooting, etc - I have no problems with any of it, as most things were small "inside jokes" that simply got blown out of proportion.

Now, as for the video, it's fantastic! I have all three of Robb's tapes and this is by far my favorite. I love the music, the synchronization, the effects, the comedy, and the superb editing job he did.

Admittedly, I am more of a park/people person than I am a "coaster enthusiast" so those people who are looking for "coasters, coasters, coasters" may be better off buying Robb's POV tape or one of those       "dry" tapes that Discovery or whoever puts out.

In my opinion, Robb's video is far from "dry" and full of comedy, creative editing, and unique effects. Not to mention the fact it's entertaining! So go ahead, it's risk free (geeze, I sound like a commercial!) give the tape a look, and if you don't like it, send it back...(even you, DWeaver & FanTurn!)

If not the "Coaster Season" video, then surely check out his POV tape. I'm sure that it's excellent.*

*The only reason I haven't purchased his POV video is because I hate plain old POV and coaster footage, even if I havent been on the ride yet. Doesn't anyone else find the Discovery Channel/Goldhvill videos dry and boring? No people, no comedy, no cool music, no synched shots, BORING!

Oh, and KoasterKing, the Swingman is from Clementon Amusement Park, not Quassy!

Sorry but the more I hear about the video, the less I want it. Hearing more about the jokes and other stuff just made me loose even more interest in it. The reasons not to buy it are overweighing the reasons to buy it.

No one's making you buy it... to each his own.

But anyway... this thread is ridiculously civil and human. Is this still the Internet? ;)

I agree with almost everything Rob said about the Season video as I enjoyed it much more because of the people, humor, comedy, and....DDR! I was cracking up the whole time and have watched the video at least ten times already. The footage video I've only seen about twice, but the editing was superb for both! I will no doubt buy abother video if he decides to continue making. I would like to say though, that a bigger section on Hershey, SFGAdv, and BGW would have been nice, but I understand if that wasn't possible due to limited footage, etc. Hopefully, Robb has a trip planned for the Texas, because I would love to see some of those parks as well.

Thanks Rob for the correction. It was in the same section as Quassy and I guess I missed the switch of title segments. Clementon is a very interesting park though. I'm sure those who've seen the video remember the very original prototype of Stealth and Batman:The Ride at the park.

Elissa, where do we find you on AOL IM(screen name)?

Wow, only on coasterbuzz could a review of someone's coaster video turn into this. I just wanted to say how much I like the video. This place never ceases to amaze me.

For someone who claims he's "not interested", he sure has kept on reading this thread for two pages now! [hmm....?]

Yeah! Finally, someone who agrees with me about POV videos. I mean, c'mon, just how many times can you watch the same exact coaster footage over and over again? [Unless you're *really* obsessed!] I've gotten rid of all my Discovery Channel/Goldhill tapes, and now I only have enthusiast videos which I find much more entertaining and the have much more "replay" value.

As for the lack of SFGAd footage - Robb ran into some bad luck with weather there, and couldn't catch a break to catch enough good weather footage for a SFGAd segment. I don't know about Hersheypark for sure, but I think he may have run into a similar problem. BGW was featured in the 2000 and 2001 videos, and I personally thought it was sufficient, but each to his own.

I hope more people purchase the video and get a kick out of it. I also think it's nice to be able to put faces to the names you see on the computer...[I'm Rob Vaccaro on his ending credits, btw!]

Yeah, the two days at SFGadv we had this year the weather was really bad!  You can see the one decent clip of SFGadv that I took in the opening segment of Robin with lapbars only!  I did a 4 min Hershey segment last year, and this year, again, didn't have enough footage for a complete segment which is why it appears in the opening.  Next should be interesting since we're going to do a video on the ACE Europe trip!  A lot of parks and coasters there that a lot of people haven't seen yet.
Rob V,

While I really do love edited segments with music and what not, there is a part of me that also loves POV. Those "America's Greatest" videos are very well done IMO and I still own mine. I still own prety much every coaster video I purchased in the last 10 years or so.  While they might not have the "Oh-Ahh" factor of Robb's or others, they do offer something a bit different.  Perhaps that is why I like them? They add to my mixed collection.

Sean (who want's to know when Rob V's video is available).

Barry,

Thanks for the review. At least this isn't rec.troll-or-coaster or it would have probably been much worse IMO.

I also have all of those coaster videos and specials. I enjoy watching them but the thing I enjoy about Robb's video is that I get to see a lot of people I know. Also, there are alot of shots in the video that are better than anything I have seen on those specials and it is nice to see something besides the same footage that they often repeat on these specials.

Thanks Sean for the props.

I own the two new 2001 videos and personally I found them very amuzing and alot of fun to watch.  Many of the coasters on it are ones I plan on riding this coming summer and I was very happy to see them on it.  Rob did a great job on them and I look forward to seeing if a 2002 video will be available.

HOWEVER... I was disappointed to see that the cross dresser from PPP did NOT make it to the video.  I felt his costume was the best out of them all.  Rob's Vekoma engineer get-up was amuzing as well.

Hostyl... brains behind beauty.  Very nice!

Yeah, we plan on doing at least two 2002 videos because it's going to be a really big year for us.  We figure our europe trip will almost be a video in itself with at least 20 parks on that trip that I've never shot video at!  Then there are all the other events next year as well!  All I know is, come next fall, if I thought I was in video editing and dubbing hell this year, next year it will be even worse!  =)

Glad you all like the videos.  The feedback is really great.  It helps a lot for doing future ones. Tell us what you like, don't like, or what you'd like to see more of.

FINALLY! I've been dying to see some footage of all those wonderful European coasters!

Thanks Robb ..

Let me know if you need an Australian 'luggage watcher' to tag along ;-)

When my friend offered me the choice of watching the park video, or the coaster video, I of course went with the park video. There are a lot of parks shown on the tape I may never get to, and I like that the tape gives you an overview of each park.

Until you get a parking space with your own name on it, you're still part of the GP.

Sean-
As for those "America's Greatest" videos, I have a short attention span and they just weren't worth the space on my shelf. I have SO many videos, tapes, and books that I watch once and then never watch again. The only coaster videos to hold my attention are the enthusiast related ones such as Robb's, yours, etc.
....As for my video? I'll let you know! ;)

Rob,

Believe me, there are quite a lot of people that think the same way you do when it comes to those other videos.  There are even some videos out there that I find to be even more cheesy (I won't mention the name of it so I don't offend anyone) but I do see what you mean. If I wasn't into POV, I would probably dislike them also.

As for you video, I cant' wait to see it! Thanks for the mention also. =:^)

Hey KoasterKing/Danny!

My AOL screename is emeridithw2...don't even ask where that comes from!

And Cameron...we're coming to Australia soon!  2003 if all goes well!

Elissa "oh geez, yeah there are going to be like 4 videos to edit next year!" White

Jeez, Europe in 2002, Australia in 2003...when is the madness going to end you two?  ;)  Seriously, I love the videos, even the older ones from 1999 and 2000.  This year's video along with the POV video were both very awesome, better than the previous.  Robb's editing skills have greatly improved, it has a great soundtrack, and even Elissa's segments rock!  Of course, it didn't hurt that I was in this year's video for like a split second or so.  ;)  At least I got my name in the credits!  =)  I'm looking forward to seeing you two on the "left" coast for a change... I always knew you both were secretly "California-biased".

Justin

p.s. to Sean F., you never sent me the pictures and video from your "left coast" adventures dude!  I'm hurt... ;)

Robb Alvey, Great job for putting out the videos. You didnt have to share. You didnt have to care. Are you sure you're not getting rich on video purchases and Globe trotting at your fellow Coasterites expense? :-) I saw the Xcellerator video and though that was fun. I'm sure the Season videoes are great.

So you're making the trip Down Under 2003? Hope you're not making it a Coaster tour, you maybe disappointed. Living in New Zealand and having visited Sydney and the Gold Coast on several occassions as well as several trips to the US (CA, FL), Europe and Japan, I can deifintely say flag Australia and go to Japan instead!!! Bonus: You can DDR your a** off in Tokyo!

Anyway I would love to see the 'Alvey and White Do Europe' video not to the mention 'Down Under with White and Alvey' ...

And to Elissa, you can edit my videoes anytime!
(meant in the nicest, non-stalking, non-threating, i-cant-believe-i-said-that way ;-)

In September, My Brother and I are flying for 24 hours straight to Walt Disney World for 2 weeks of Florida fun including BGT, SWF, IOA and USF, then it off to LA for DLR, KBF, SFMM then onto SF for PGA and SFMW before heading back to New Zealand. So with regards to the Coaster obsession. I know it, feel it and love it.

I will be definitely thinking of you two the next time I'm on Goliath ... lol ... Continued Success to you both.

Yours in Obsession.
Rob.
