Ripcords What Are They Like?

I rode the one at PKD two years ago with my wife, and I screamed like a little girl during the first full swing. The freefall might only last a couple seconds, but it seems like an eternity. But it is an amazing rush!

fun...expensive...
My wife and I did the 300 footer in Old Town back in January 2001. It was colder than we expected... about 45 degrees, so at least I can say my wobbly knees weren't entirely from my fear of heights. The trip up to the top was an eternity. We got to the top, heard "3-2-1 fly" and nothing happened. (My wife was the one who was pulling the ripcord.) I can feel her tugging on it, and she says that she's having trouble. I would love to know what my heart rate was at that point. Long story short, she does get the ripcord pulled, we drop, and what a phenomenal (albeit cold) swing! All other skycoasters seem small to us now.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Kennywood's skycoaster yet! 180 feet tall, excellent location, good fun. I also seem to remember reading that it was the first skycoaster to be installed in an amusement park.

We didn't get a chance to do the 300 footer at Old Town because my wife was 3 weeks away from giving birth. We're going back to Orlando in September and I can't wait to finally try it.

I videotape at the one at PKI. The ride looks very picturesque from the Action Zone midway and it's very close to Drop Zone. It's really not to be missed, especially if you're not up to waiting for SOB or Top Gun. They're usually running some sort of special during weekdays.

By the way, it's funny how many people mention the 300 foot Kissimmee Skycoaster to me. I didn't realize it was that well known.

Words just cannot describe a ride on a skycoaster, they are truly worth the money to experience.

About the most nerve racking part of the entire ride is the ascent up the tower to your launch point then you hear those feared words "3,2,1 fly!" and you know the only way your are getting back down is the "express route" once that cable "connects" the scariest part is over and you are just swinging back and forth through the air.

I've ridden SFA's skycoaster 3 times so far and it just gets better each and every time, once you get up the nerve to try it you'll be coming back for more.

To make it easier and less expensive I suggest having a friend ride with you that way you don't have to worry about having to be the one who must pull the ripcord,If I ever tried it solo I'd probably still be stuck up there right now.

I think the one on Panama City Beach, FL is the first one, but it's only 100ft tall. And I chickened out a few years ago. Can't even imagine the 300ft one.

hey. i'm new here. just thought i'd clear that up.

the skycoaster at kennywood is a great ride. the water surrounding it is a nice touch. i even bought the video for that one. the initial drop is fantastic, but after that, it gets kind of tedious just swinging back and forth. enh. still, a great ride. one of the few non-coaster rides i even bother with.

bam!

They are AWSOME!!!!!! I thought I wasn't going to like it. I thought it would be boring. It was anything but. There's no words I can use to describe the drop before the swing. It's incredible. DO IT!!! :-)

They are VERY intense. I usually end up shaking from the adrenalin for a few minutes after. I'm scared of heights, so they're extra intense for me. But I've done them twice now. I'm not sure my heart can take another one, but I'll never say "never". You should try it at least once in your life...
