Ripcords What Are They Like?

The one thing I havent tried at any amusment parks are ripcords because I'm terrified of them. I can ride anything else expect ripcords. What are they like? Today I just got 700hrs and a free ripcord flight pass. Every year I push my self to ride but I cant. I ride Power Tower at Valleyfair almost everytime love going down and up, is it the samething or different? I'm going to chat with Valleyfair Fan (CBuzzer who works at VF) later this week and see if he can get me on. Who else has been on ripcords and what does everyone think of them anyone else scared of them? This maybe the year for me to 3-2-1 fly....;).

I love SKYCOASTERS. I'm going on one in a few weeks. The one at Cedar Point is my favorite. The seting near Magnum is awesome. Just ride it though. If you don't like it then don't ride them anymore. If you go pull the ripcord. It is fun Also it is way different then Power Tower rides.

I think riding one would be like riding a first coaster (for those of us who remember that experience ;)). It would scare me to death the first time or two, especially being lifted up before being released. But that's part of the fun, right? And after than they could be the best thing going at parks. I've wanted so badly to ride every time I go to a park that has one, but I've never been able to bring myself to plunk down that kind of money...

I rode the Ripcord at CP once. I think the scariest part is being pulled slowly up to the top of the tower (which is the scariest part of the drop side of power tower for me). The initial drop isn't much worse than the PT, except you tend to fall face first before the line catches.

The swinging afterwards is the best part of the ride and a complete rush.

If you like drop rides, you should try Ripcord at least once.

They are very fun. I've ridden the one at WoF twice, and it is an awesome ride. You should try it at least once.

Sit back, hold on tight, because Mamba is about to strike! Enjoy Your Ride!

I have been on the one at PGA 5 times! its the only ride beside drop zone that gives you a real rush!

Go on it, the only scary part is the obvious part, when you first get released. you feel a total sensation of free fall for about 1 1/2 sec. but the rest is fun as you glide back and forth over the crowd. if youre scared go on with someone and make them pull the cord

I haven't been on one yet but I want to!! The one at MIA looked really tall, which one is the tallest. Also, If the tellest one isn't in the midwest, which is the talest one in the midwest?

I forget WHERE the tallest is, but it is about 300FT tall.

I saw the one at Old Town, tall doesn't even BEGIN.....after doing the Sling Shot (ride claims 365'....and I believe it!), I didn't have the nerves left to think about the Skycoaster.......of course, later that nite I find myself on Katanga.....http://community-2.webtv.net/parkguide/Katanga/

The only Skycoaster I've been on was at Wild Adventures....FREE ride....I'm guessing it was about 160-170'....tall enough for me....the first thing after you pull the release, your body weight pulls you face first towards the ground, and get about 2-3 seconds of pure TERROR....:)

If you're not watching "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", you're just watching the news....

For My money they are the only truly scary things at any amusement park-

I just thought of how flippin amazing (scary) it would be if you put one on top of the stratosphere tower In Las Vegas- OMG would anyone actually ride it?

They are a great ride and provide a great adrenaline rush. I have been on the one at CP and at PKI. The one at CP is better but only because of the setting near Magnum. Just force yourself to ride and if you don't like don't ride again. I am sure you will want to ride it again though.

I would definately recommend going on one. As a "site controller" (Sky Fun's technical term for someone who has been factory trained and all skycoasters must have one on site at all times) I consider this one of the most fun, safest attractions around. You get good, however short, freefall once you pull the cord. The first time I rode one was in 96 and had no idea what to expect....but was very impressed when the ride was over. I do have to admit though, I have never paid to ride one (most parks allow site controllers from other parks to ride free as long as they get to ride free when they come to your park). I would say my count of flights myself would be about 150. Each one is still a lot of fun.

I did my first skycoaster at SFH a few weeks ago and the slow pull up just terrified me! This coming from someone who's known by friends to be a bit suicidal (positively speaking) when it comes to attractions like coasters, bungee-catapults etc etc. The silence and soft blowing of the cool springbreeze amazed me, hanging 170ft above mother earth in nothing more than this 'blanket'... Until you hear:

"Click"

Gutwrenching freefall!

It indeed reminded me of my first rides on rollercoasters and i'm sure that whenever i get the chance to ride it again, i will. I never did a bugeejump before, because i was terrified just by the thought of it, but now that's the next thing on my list. All i can say Beast, just clear your mind, think of nothing while standing in front and go for it! You won't regret!

I'm proud of ALL my mayor malfunctions!

I have done it twice. Awesome both times.

I fool so feelish....

I rode the one at CP, and it was fun. I didn't think it was scary though because of the huge coasters at the park. I just wish I could have ridden VertiGo...:( I would love to ride a 300 foot one though!

LocoBazooka--Sevendust, Nonpoint, Stereo Vent, Mushroomhead
Korn Tour (With no name)--Korn, Puddle of Mudd, Deadsy

The only one I've done so far is the one at Old Town. Its fun, and the only thing that'll scare the bejeezus out of you is that first drop.

I'll realy have to think about it. This is the greatest fear I have is riding ripcords. The one at Valleyfair is pretty tall.

Valleyfair Fan: I'll show you the free flight passs later this week.
