Riders needed for Discovery Channel video shoot at PKI

Posted | Contributed by Sean F.

Paramount's Kings Island needs 100 very enthusiastic riders to participate in a video shoot for the Discovery Channel. Tomb Raider: The Ride will be featured in a future edition of Extreme Rides.

To participate:

  • Riders must be at least 54 inches tall.
  • Riders must wear bright, solid color clothes with NO logos. No park wear of any type is permitted. Summer clothes are recommended. It may be cold outside but remember, Tomb Raider is an indoor ride. You can wear your jacket and store it someplace inside "the tomb."
  • The park will be serving a catered lunch to those that attend the video shoot.
  • All participants will get two free tickets for the 2003 season.
  • The shoot will take place Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and you will be required to ride repeatedly, often having to sit for long periods of time as cameras are repositioned.

The first 100 people to respond will be admitted to the shoot and further instructions on parking and such will be provided. Please RSVP to Jeffrey Siebert at jeffrey.siebert@paramountparks.com.

I e-mailed him and told him if he needed me to respond. I said I met all the requirements and would be happy to do it. I hope they write back and say they need me. I would love to do it since I've never been to PKI.

I sure hope that I can participate. I got to ride MF for a video shoot, but haven't seen them use the footage yet. It was a blast. It would be worth the 3 hour drive all the way!

WickedTwister44554,

Just remember, due to the shoot, it won't be certain that you will be in the show. It all depends on what the directors want for the show. As for the director asking everyone questions, that probably won't happen. That all depends on who they want to feature in the show (which is up to the director or the park).

Bill,

My guess would be that Jeffrey will e-mail those that were the first100 to respond.

Tinkerbell,

This shoot is for Tomb Raider: The Ride. Drop Zone won't be running.

DLDude,

My guess would be that a guardian would need to be present for the release signing. For those that don't know, it is required that all folks participating in a video shoot like this sign a release form in case the production company wants to use your image. Usually, if you are under the age of 18, you need a legal guardian to be present at the shoot.

Hey Sean,

Will Seibert tell us what time to start arriving, or do you know?

Thanks,

Eric

Wouldn't you know it, I have volleyball tryouts that day. So for the second time, Stephanie gets to go to a Tomb Raider event and I don't. Why didn't the Discovery people call my people to make sure the date was OK? ;)

Figures. The one weekend in November I won't be around...

(Where will I be? Um, well, er, Hawaii...)

My page

I love tomb raider.... I am not sure why people do not like it.
I sent an email but it is already late in the day. Maybe there will be couple spots left.

Edit: Removed incorrect referance to the length of ride. In my original post I was referring to what someone else had said, but my writing made it look like I called Tomb Raider a short ride. (read Jeff's post below)

For God's sake it is NOT a short ride. It's longer than any other thrill ride in the park save maybe for Beast and SOB.

If I had a car, I would have submitted my name for this in a heartbeat, even though I live in Madison, WI, nearly 7 hours away !

Hmm... when do you think we'll get e-mails back?

I sent an e-mail 15 minutes after it was first posted...

I prefer the pears in the heavy syrup. They're just good.

So does anyone know if they've gotten the 100 people yet? I'd love to go, but I'm still trying to find someone to go with. Seems a lot of people don't like the idea of driving from Cleveland to Cincinatti to ride "just one ride". Go figure.

How about you give Jeff a chance to get to his office first....... :)

Jeff usually Responds in two to three days. Not saying he will or won't. They (PKI) usually want to wait untill they get the full list and then they send out one mass e-mail. Just be patient....you might need that patient for some video shoots.

Well, I hope I'm not too late but I attempted to RSVP for this shoot. Hopefully I'll see some of you there.

Wabash, I doubt you'll be coming through Columbus. But if you do for some reason I'll tag along with you from there.

Ahh man! What I wouldn't give to live in southern Ohio right about now. :(

We spent two days this summer at PKI. I thought Tomb Raider was great! There's a bit of a novelty factor being that it was my first Top Spin. But my only real complaint was that the ride was too short. The effects were well done and the experience was top notch. I could see how the novelty would quickly wear off though.

Tomb Raider is the worst, most uninspired, "thrill" ride I have ever been on. when i walked into that room and realized this was going to be my first giant huss i was jumping up and down with excitement. When it was over my neighbor had to wake me up. i've had more fun riding zipper like rides than TR:TR. i know a lot of u like this ride and i am not trying to insult anyone's opinion, as this is just mho, but why spend the money to make the ride effects so good but then make the ride itself suck. maybe it is just me but exciting to me is loosing your stomach on a drop not spinning (very very slowely) toward some cheesy effects. turn the lights out and kick the thing into overdrive if u want it to be fun. i have not been to SFWoA yet but they had a ride there when it was GL called texas twister??? it is a smaller top spin style ride. they used to tell u they run it in 3 settings and the most intense one was my favorite. that ride was/is the poop! *** This post was edited by faster faster on 11/11/2002. ***

Proud to be a C.O.C.K.

Faster Faster.. in some ways I have to agree with you. They obviously toned down the thrill factor in order to incorporate the effects.

Darn, I didn't make it. I got an e-mail saying they had over 1,000 entries, but they could only take the first 100 (of course) and I wasn't one of them. Darn. Maybe they'll have some other shoot next year I can go to.
I also received my rejection e-mail...oh well, it was fun thinking about this for the last day. I hope everyone who was lucky enough to be picked has a good time. The thing that I was looking forward to the most was seeing what the park looked like this time of year.
