Ride torn down: Replacement worse!?!

hardy har har. You got me! I must mention, though, that millrace actually refers to a real millrace, not to Cedar Point's old ride. I will admit to exploiting the connection from time to time however.
That "green monstrosity" also caused the loss of one of the tracks of turnpike cars (not really a tragic loss there) as well as the destruction of the old carousel house. That old building had a lot of character and charm. The awful looking thing the carousel sits in now looks like it's made out of cardboard and aluminum foil.

"Well, I can add one thing, Fun Town in Chicago was torndown and replaced with a hardware store :(. I believe Funtown was the last amusement park in Chicago (on the south side 95th & Stony Island). It was a great little place.

Along those same lines, Opryland was replaced by a shopping mall.
The worst coaster murder of all time was when Elitch's moved and tore down the venerable Mr. Twister and replaced it with the "improved" Twister II.

Except we don't know yet how Phantom's Revenge will compare. Personally I'm really looking forward to it.

The biggest example I can think of at Kennywood is the Monster for the Swing Around -- Swing Around is fun, but I liked the Monster a LOT more.

Darn it Jenn you beat me to it!
I would have to agree that the Zinger removal and then the Cheesepuff replacement is terrible, but let's remember the others too. Schussboomer was replaced by a tent to host corporate parties at WOF.

I agree with Wild One about PKD's lack of flat rides which they had plenty of back in the 80's. They seemed to have forgotten that a theme park is more than roller coasters and water rides. At least they still have The Berserker (inverting pirate ship).
Another example is at Disneyland. They took down the awesome circle vision and people mover in one fell swoop, and turned them both into the sub-par Rocket Rods. Oh well, at least that thing generated huge lines. Less people in line for the better rides!
I have a feeling that I am going to like the Steel Phantom better than the Phantoms Revenge. I don't think that Kenneywood should have altered it in anyway, and I know everyone that signed that petition agreed with me why mess with a top 10 coaster?
Regarding the Mill Race...

I really loved that ride. I think it was a much better ride than White Water Landing, even. Oh well, I guess I can't complain...I'd rather have Raptor. I agree about the Carousel building, millrace.
I cant believe SFO took out Rotor for the 2000 season. That thing was my first non-kiddie ride ever! It was soooo kool.
I understand that Kennywood had planned on "updating" Le Cachot, but after they inspected the building, dropped those plans and razed it. I hadn't heard about it burning to the ground, nor about a fire during the demolition (but it wouldn't surprise me).

Hey Eddie 2003, I liked the Skywhirl too. Cool ride. I got to run the one in Santa Clara before they tore it down and put in Invertigo which happens to be so so.

I got $5 on it! ;)

I couldn't agree more. The PeopleMover (don't laugh) was my favorite ride at Disneyland. I'm serious. Rocket Rods BLOW.

"X" marks the spot in 2001!
SFO's Rotor still sits in the boneyard, with rumor of it coming back for 2001 or 2002.
I of course wasn't around back then, but the day the Crystal Beach Cyclone was taken down in favor of anything else -- whatever it was -- was one of the saddest days in coaster history in my opinion. I'd like to see more dangerous rides that could produce the thrill of a lifetime, but we all know it won't happen. :(
When Cedar Point invested 4.5 million to enclose Avalanche Run...now the infamous Disaster Transport. Granted Avalanche Run was not a good ride (bobsled coaster), but it was at the very least an attractive ride. Now we have a giant warehouse sitting on prime lakefront property...and the ride is insulting. Great move CP!
Rotor - I used to enjoy that ride, but was there ever a ride that used more sawdust? It was always an adventure to ride - Put lots of handymen patrolling this ride!

I agree with PKI taking out Skylab for a Rock Climbing wall. That is bush.
For the last time, It only cost $1 million to enclose Avalanche Run. I was working for them the year they did this. Charles Dinn actually built the building. It was part of a 2 year deal that involved the Mean Streak. Avavlanche Run only cost $3.5 million to build.
How about the Serial Thriller at Astroworld? Personally, I never rode the Excalibur (I think that's what was there), but it was replaced by a Vekoma SLC. Nowhere to go but up from one of those pieces of... Anyway, I sympathize with you Skywhirl folks. It would suck having one of my favorite rides replaced by a Vekoma (just kidding - Deja Vu might not be too bad).

One last thing, though: if ANYTHING (be it a kiddy ride, food stall, bathroom, whatever :)) has ever been replaced by a Premier launched coaster, then that takes the cake for me.
