Rich Text and Chrome

Is there a specific reason why the rich text toolbar doesn't show up in Chrome? I know Chrome is far from being a 'major player' in the browser wars, but I just assumed that it was pretty much compatible with everything since Google makes it. ;) Anyway, just noticed it and thought I would ask.

The rich text editor was written (mostly) circa 2004, so naturally it wouldn't have any knowledge of Chrome. I was able to make a few tweaks at one point to make it work with Firefox much later on. It's hands down the worst thing I've ever had to code around because every browser and browser version implements it differently and spits out different crap. Believe it or not, the forum actually parses the HTML into "forum code" first, and then converts that to the actual posts you see, because it was the easiest way to try and get some consistency.

So as of today, it doesn't work with Safari either. The plan is to just use an open source editor at some point in the future, but not likely until the next rewrite, which at the moment exists only in my head.
