Mamoosh, that is a great point! Everybody always complains how much they miss Drachen Fire. I have ridden it, and it really wasnt too good, IMO.
I think the reason it gets so much hype, is because many have not actually ever rode it, are basing their opinions on looks alone. The cutbacks were cool looking, but were painful
darienlakefan: You should really pick up a copy of Idora Park: Last Ride of Summer by Rick Shale and Charles J. Jacques, Jr. This book contains great pictures of the Wildcat in its heyday, including pictures of the coaster when it still had its' swooping first drop.
Coincidentally, I learned from the book that Herbert Schmeck (who designed the coaster for Idora in 1929-1930) used the name "Wildcat" whenever he could for coasters he designed, unless the park owners specifically wanted another name. John Miller used "Jack Rabbit" in a similar manner.
I'd like to see the Long Beach Cyclone Racer rebuilt. It looks like one of Traver's masterpieces. And I would like to ride the Crystal Beach and Puritas Springs Cyclones just once.
One more ride - PKI's Bat.

Whizzer Boi,
The SCBB Jet Star still exists,it was moved to a small park in Turner Oregon called Thrillville USA.I have ridden it several times.Thrillville is an hour south of Portland, just off exit 248 on I-5.The coaster has been re-named the Ripper.
Chris, thanks for the link on Carl Phare and the Seattle Playland. That is the most information that I have found anywhere on this.

I grew up within walking distance of West View park in Pittsburgh....The racing whippet was truly unique, hugging the terrain it was built on. The Dips was cool, too... If you ride the Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park, it is pretty much a copy of the Dips, but a mirror image....starting on the left and returning on the right. Minus the Dips' famous banked turnaround curve. The last small dip before the station also gave incredible air time at West View; Conneaut's last dip didn't seem to pack the punch that West View's did. Blue Streak is still an awesome coaster, and probably the closest thing left to the West View Park Dips that I have been able to find! Sadly, the park is always on the brink of bankruptcy and no one ever knows if it will reopen the following season. :(

Drachen Fire was no rougher than your average Arrow of the day, and it had a more interesting layout. i remember a loop halfway down the first hill, and sevveral other weird, unique elements.
if i had a choice, i'd rather have that still with us than, say, anaconda at PKD.

Man I wish I could've ridden the Wildcat it seemed vicious Thanks for the Info guys!I wish someone had a POV of the Idora Wildcat that would be great.
But it seems like every photo I see of the coaster is when it was closed down or SBNO.

Here's a link to one of the few remaining Idora Park sites. They have a video section with POV of both the Wildcat and Jackrabbit...
