Recognizing trains

Don't Forget NAD trains. National Amusement Device

These are usually marked by getting in the same side you get out. Thunderbolt at KP, Big Dipper at SFWOA, Coney Island Cyclone, and other old classics run these trains.

Want to be really thrown for a loop? Check out the trains on Screechin Eagle, at first glance they appear to be PTC. In fact the top (the benches and sides) are PTC while the actual Frame is NAD. I think the trains came from the original Mr Twister at Elitch Gardens.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

Flanged wheels on Morgan? Well, Morgan must have changed after, cause Monstre at La Ronde runs those trains and they originally had: 2 running wheels, 2 guide wheels and 2 upstops bars per car (the first car of the train had another chassis added on, to provide the extra axle). In the last few years, La Ronde added upstop wheels (in addition to the bars).

MagnumForce, I don't think the CI Cyclone runs NAD. I believe they are one of a kind trains. Every seat is different, one seat you have lots of leg room then another your crammed in.

Other NAD's running are on the Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park, And the Big (or is it Giant) Dipper at Camden Park. Camden Park also has a kiddie coaster with mini NAD's on it.

Most NAD trains are easy to spot since they have headlights, although most don't work now, and they sorta resemble an old front end of a car. I believe they are run off of a battery tucked under a seat.

awww, coasterpunk, I was SO excited to ride KW's T-bolt with the headlights at night....and they were broken.....anybody get to ride with the headlights ON.....in pitch-black ERT, I dare say that it would quite possibly be as good as that #1 ranking people used to complain about.....
