Reasons to Respect Vekoma.

Most of the time, the more money you spend, the better product. Like a Mercedes, vs a cheaply made car. I know to spend $50000 on a mercedes is better than $10000 on another car. Maybe cheaper coasters arent as good as the more expensive ones, but i still like them all.

I respect them for there bright ideas: the flying Dutchman,Dejavu, and now there new Hammerhead Stall ride. I think it would be cool if B&M and Vekoma combind companys, Imagine the rides !!

ßruce if you would have read my post, you would see that I was actually agreeing with 2Hostyl. And another thing, do not twist my words into saying that was the only thing they did right. How many flying roller coasters by vekoma are out there? There are two and by them adding to the second one, it is an improvment to the first one. Read what you replied to and then tell me where I said it was the ONLY good thing Vekoma ever did.

2Hostyl it was a joke, sarcasm. I said that because you basically downed every point he made. No appology

You are the Weakest Link, Goodbye.
Interesting topic, I'll jump in.

Vekoma is a good company, no doubt about that. I wouldn't call Vekoma ride reliable by any means. Boomerangs rollback often, and the Mind Eraser was down most of the day when I was at SFWoA. I don't think that the Boomerang is a well designed coaster at all. The train makes a major jerk on the second lift, and the cable just waves and flaps around in between the track on the first lift.

My biggest disappointment with Vekoma is the their wheel assemblies. They are very poorly designed. You can just watch the wheels on an SLC or (gasp) a Flying Dutchman spin away while the coaster is at a stop. Will Vekoma continue to use old technology on all of their rides?

On the bright side of things, Vekomas are economical for small parks. It is funny that Vekoma rides that seem to be very good (Rock'n Roller Coaster) don't get much publicity. Vekoma can make good rides. I respect Vekoma for coming up with so many new concepts. The boomerang, tilt coaster, flying dutchman, and hammerhead stall all look impressive.

I think Vekoma gets a nasty rep in the enthusiast community just because parks buy their cookie cutter rides. You can't blame Vekoma for that. The park wants a certain ride, they are going to get a certain ride. You don't need to bash other coaster companies just to make Vekoma look good.

Don't forget, Cedar Point owns a Vekoma. Not all Vekomas are headbanging steel demons folks.

Vekoma DOES NOT, what stl_fa_sho said. I think it is a very good company. Now I know some boomrangs hurt but most of them are maintained in good condition. I think that Vekoma will make a come-back. Just give them time. They'll make a relly good design someday. Even though they are a very good company already. *** This post was edited by Mr. X on 8/11/2001. ***

There are actually 3. Stealth, X-Flight, and Batwing.

Don't mention anything stl_fa_sho says. It's feeding a troll.

I'm just wondering what you mean by having a come-back. When did they start producing less? It seems every year, 4 or 5 new boomerangs (of any variety) are built, 1 or 2 SLCs are built, 1 woodie is built, and I bet in the next few years to come, 3-4 flying dutchmen will be built. I would hardly call it a come-back, but rather a "We-never-needed-a-come-back, we were always here!"

TrBiggar,

OK you got me there but just I haven't seen much of Vekoma's work around where I go (KBF 24/7) I mean it's just really kinda Boomerang this Boomerang that then the GIB's (which I can't wait for) but it's just I ca't say anything about there woodies, flying dutchman's or SLC's. I just need to see more around here. I just want to see more. I don't go out that much cuz well, I like Knott's. But in your opinion, what are their woodies, flying ducthman's and SLC's like? I heard all bad things from my friend. Now I'm not saying I beleive everything he says (he said Revolution has no OTSR's now and Monteezooma's getting bumped out) but you know if I haven't really seen the stuff I can't really say. Sorry. I mean I think that Vekoma designed JP @ Universal
(at least thats what i saw on their site) But I just want to see more. Like a really big expansion to Vekoma like more continous circuits (sit downs not SLC's). Again, sorry TrBiggar. I just want to see more out here.

Accually, I have yet to ride a Vekoma coaster. The only one I currently could ride is Spacely's @ SFGAm, but I'm too big for the kiddie coaster. I'm sure they do have good coasters, and bad ones, all of the same cookie cutter design. To me, I am one of the people who thinks that SLC's designs are wicked, and would be intense. Boomerangs to me though, look boring. I've never gone through the boomerang element on any coaster, but they look the same as Arrow's boomerang, except in reverse, so I'm sure that the forces would be inverted (positive-lateral-positive instead of lateral-positive-lateral, like on Shockwave's boomerang).
As for Flying Dutchman, give me a year, I'll tell you what I think!

I wasn't under that impression from the earlier post!!

"5) Like Joe C said, Vekoma's arent like CCI cheap."
-In the UK a Vekoma installment have proved cheaper than the B&M's/Intamins.

"There are essentially only three (maybe four) different Vekoma design in the States. "
The world is a very big place, and not all of it on that side of the ocean!!
Can I mention a few great Vekoma's?-you know I'm going to anyway!!
Spacemountain -launched dark ride@DLP
Superman-launched coaster@6Flags Holland
Millenium coaster-Mega looper at Fantasy Island
Odyssey-hyper invert@Fantasy Island
Tilt coaster-(Taiwan I think!)
Hammerhead stall (6Flags Holland next year-same problems as Deja-Vu with the catch mechanism perhaps?) as well as :
The Flying Dutchmans
The Dejas
The Rock'n'rollercoasters
The Booms/Invertigos/SLC's,-and there are a couple of customised SLC's
The old Corkscrews
The Junior inverts
The Rollerskaters
The Woodies
-So yes, I do believe the product range is pretty vast. Intamins' product range is wide too, just they don't produce a wide variety of coasters(that is the subject here innit?)- and I say it again, 4 consecutive inline twists on Atlantis, I'll ride it...once... before lunch!!
Overall it looks like we're reaching an agreement though!!
Regards Col.
