RCT3 System Requirements

Yeah, I've read of the 1.33Ghz I have going much higher than the 1.5 I have it at, but I don't want to mess with all that comes with going super high.

This is a nice little "bonus" the way I see it and I didn't have to mod anything. It runs at around 53 degrees under a full load - standard cooling works fine at this level.

I guess my concern is if the $50 is worth a 300mhz increase. I could put that money into a vid card (something I really need to upgrade). I'm not going to bother with anymore RAM until I swap out Mobos and go to a higher FSB. No reason to sink more money into something that's nearing the end of it's lifespan for me.

I just want to drop a few $$$ on a couple of things that might give me a little extra come the end of the year when RCT3 hits. Looks like a nice vid card is in order and maybe the upgraded processor for just another $50. I'd be tight after that.

Thought in light of all the recent talk of sys requirements it'd be fun to revive this thread. First, I wish to apologize to all for thinking that their comps would be able to run RCT3. Perhaps I could suggest playing a less demanding game like Half-Life 2 :)

LG: I actually did catch the overclocking bug and my 2000+ runs stable on a 166FSB (166*12.5=2.083GHz) giving me 2600+ speed. However, with the stock heatsink it runs way too hot under full load (~70C) so I've backed off till I can get a decent heatsink/fan. I've though about pulling a 'Jeff' and getting a mobile 2600+, but right now, I dont really *need* the extra speed (especially if I can get my temps under control and keep the overclock :))

I also have a 9800SE softmodded to unlock the extra 4 pipes and overclocked to 9800pro speeds so I'm good for a while. But since RCT3 is such a bear, I think I'll just spend my money on Warcraft 3 or something ...

The only place I've seen significant performance increase is in video encoding, but I don't do a ton of that. Avid runs even on my 2 GHz Celeron laptop.

About overclocking here my bios give me a feature, or at least i think to boost the speed a little of the cpu, but I'm afraid to touch it for fear my heatsink, and fan can't cool it, Any suggestions, just want it faster! Although I would consider it if I could get some radiator cooling in it. Just need some thoughts here...
If you don't know what you're doing, talk to a professional or buy a new processor. You could easily ruin your processor or more if you improperly overclock...
Well I'm pretty proffesional but I'll stick to the phrase "Better safe then sorry." LOL!
Read this guide. It's a pretty good "starter's manual".
Hey thanks, it didn't work, but I know for a fact thats because of my MB because its maximum FSB is 333Mhz it needs at least 400 Mhz FSB to overclock the 2800 Sempmron. I saved the site!

"Pull a Jeff"? Hmph -- who do you think turned him onto THAT idea? ;)

(In my case, I bought a 2200+ that now runs roughly equivalent to a 3000+ for my main home office PC. I'm actually tempted to move that box over to my Home Theater PC and put it back at stock speeds -- for the HTPC you want something that runs cool and quiet, and the Pentium 4 1.6A I have in there now isn't really either)

Anyway, both machines are capable of RCT3, but I haven't bothered.

"You seem healthy. So much for voodoo."

Why am I not suprised ;)?

Seriously though, I didnt know overclocking was something so many people did, but it makes sense. For the most part, if you follow general guidelines, your components are in no danger and you're basically just "taking what the defense gives you". More is always better than less....especially when it's free! :)

BTW: my little 2000+ is running 2.088 at 50C full load now. Not great but a whole lot better than SEVENTY.

Came so close to getting RCT3 to install on my sister's PC but I forgot to bring the original game case with me so I was unable to enter the appropriate CD key needed in order to continue installation.

That's kinda stupid for the game to require it....IIRC RCT2 didn't require any CD keys in order to install.

yea, but its a copyright issue, because RCT1 was not copyright protected, the game was easy to copy to another cd, but not all upper versions, thats too long of a discussion to talk about.

Every game is copyrighted. I think you mean copy protected.

Yes thats what I meant, I was thinking of the word...and didn't come to me, Thanks Jeff.
Never fear I got it to work now after remembering to bring the CD key with me the next time I showed up at my sister's place & it works fine now.
