This is a nice little "bonus" the way I see it and I didn't have to mod anything. It runs at around 53 degrees under a full load - standard cooling works fine at this level.
I guess my concern is if the $50 is worth a 300mhz increase. I could put that money into a vid card (something I really need to upgrade). I'm not going to bother with anymore RAM until I swap out Mobos and go to a higher FSB. No reason to sink more money into something that's nearing the end of it's lifespan for me.
I just want to drop a few $$$ on a couple of things that might give me a little extra come the end of the year when RCT3 hits. Looks like a nice vid card is in order and maybe the upgraded processor for just another $50. I'd be tight after that.
LG: I actually did catch the overclocking bug and my 2000+ runs stable on a 166FSB (166*12.5=2.083GHz) giving me 2600+ speed. However, with the stock heatsink it runs way too hot under full load (~70C) so I've backed off till I can get a decent heatsink/fan. I've though about pulling a 'Jeff' and getting a mobile 2600+, but right now, I dont really *need* the extra speed (especially if I can get my temps under control and keep the overclock :))
I also have a 9800SE softmodded to unlock the extra 4 pipes and overclocked to 9800pro speeds so I'm good for a while. But since RCT3 is such a bear, I think I'll just spend my money on Warcraft 3 or something ...

"Pull a Jeff"? Hmph -- who do you think turned him onto THAT idea? ;)
(In my case, I bought a 2200+ that now runs roughly equivalent to a 3000+ for my main home office PC. I'm actually tempted to move that box over to my Home Theater PC and put it back at stock speeds -- for the HTPC you want something that runs cool and quiet, and the Pentium 4 1.6A I have in there now isn't really either)
Anyway, both machines are capable of RCT3, but I haven't bothered.

Seriously though, I didnt know overclocking was something so many people did, but it makes sense. For the most part, if you follow general guidelines, your components are in no danger and you're basically just "taking what the defense gives you". More is always better than less....especially when it's free! :)
BTW: my little 2000+ is running 2.088 at 50C full load now. Not great but a whole lot better than SEVENTY.

That's kinda stupid for the game to require it....IIRC RCT2 didn't require any CD keys in order to install.
