RCDB Gets New Look

Thanks Tekno I'll have nightmares for weeks after that and my three year old is in a screaming frenzy lol j/k but that is weird though hehehe.
I entered my zip code and got 6 defunct parks. They weren't even the closest ones to my house either. Now that should come in handy!
I would've been SO LOST without Antuan! ;)
You'd be suprised at how many people would, MF ;).

Functionaly the site is amazing, I have used it to plan a number of trips since finding it, and this site two years ago. Visually however it is an eyesore. When it comes to developers and design I say K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid). It looks like a halloween edition with that orange.

Again, site is great, love it, use it constantly.

The feature Gonch mentions instantly showing parks near a location is great. Props to Duane. But I don't see the map links you mention, Gonch?

One thing I noticed is not all zip codes and cities are there, so you might have to try something nearby.

Clicking Amusement Park under Advanced Search and being able to search by any mileage, with results sorted by range, is invaluable. The only way to top that would be to allow you to show parks nearby a route! :) Also I wonder if one day it'll be able to show results by road mileage (by shortest route) vs. 'as the crow flies'. Though I can't imagine how much work that'd be to implement, and guess it could also slow things down some.

The map links don't appear to be fully implimented yet. Check Astroworld for an example.

Something else I noticed. SFGAdv has a tab for 'Lodging' - hardly thorough, but interesting.

There is also a link back to the main park page on every photo page. The old way was to click the facts tab then click the link to the park's main page. Just another little streamline.

I do know that Duane made a lot of changes with the way the site handles languages too - so if you browse the site in anything other than English, you may notice some improvements there too.

Ok, I'm done selling the 'new' RCDB to everyone. ;)

Oh yeah, I personally like the splash of color added to the site as well. I guess I'm an RCDB fanboy. :)

I really like the new look
A few of them have timelines. Isn't that new?
No offense here, but Blue=simple, but Orange=not simple, and thusly less functional? Not getting that.

That sounds like a simple prefrence to me, and I like Orange :).

The only things that have changed visually is that they added a small (and very well designed) logo, the small graphical headers on the left side, and they changed it to orange. Other than that, it is still very, very simple.

Not tryin to call you out or anything 8., but it sounds more like prefrence.

Blue = Boring, not much going on, not attractive.

Orange + logo = More interesting to look at, not so old looking.

What would we do without RCDB? It's an amazing site.

Interesting... cool new features.

As for the color, I don't go to RCDB for the look of the site, I go there for its fantastic functionality. That being said, I like the logo and am fairly indifferent towards the orange... perhaps it will grow on me.

Also, on a side note, I think this has to be one of the most depressing lists ever. So many great/unique rides... that I'll never get to ride.

BB, I totally agree with the Riverview link. I had to drive by the Riverview site everyday (33 years too late)when I lived in Chicago. Now all that's there is a strip mall, police station, and a very ugly statue to commemorate Riverview (and no, it's not coaster related -- it's an abstract).

About the rcdb orange -- will it affect color blindness and how the page can be seen?

"Little Bat"
Only Coaster Enthusiasts would argue and praise/complain about a color change on a coaster related website.

2 pages? ...so far.

My opinion is, it's always nice to see a website updated and changed a little. I like blue. I like orange. they are both very nice colors.

RCDB is one of the very best websites on the net, imho. I tell a lot of my friends who have questions about coasters/parks to visit it. I almost couldn't imagine life without it.

...and Coasterbuzz too. Y'all crack me up talking about colors like this.

Fantastic. The best gets even better. Although I could care less how the site looks, you go there for info and pictures, not for beautiful graphics.

From RCDB:

"The creator of the rcdb is a computer programmer by profession and has no artistic talent whatsoever."

Why do they even need a logo in the first place? Especially one anyone that doesn't know about the site wouldn't get. If I didn't know any better I would say it reads as "Rollercoaster ata ase."

Whatever. I think most park merch is butt arse ugly too. That doesn't stop a lot of people from wearing it. :) *** Edited 9/19/2005 3:43:30 PM UTC by eightdotthree***

Hey, I like it. The logo is really clever if you ask me. Most logos suck.

And Duane is a fantastic code monkey, certainly better than me. What he has created borders on overkill, but it falls into the "no big deal" category for him. That's pretty sweet.

Also, a few parks have trip reports. Check out Six Flags Great America and there is a trip report.

Certain victory.

I always loved RCDB, so its grand that they updated...but those colors are horrendous. Its a eye disaster.

For the love of Moosh, change the colors, ICK.

I think there were a handful of parks that featured trip reports previous to this update.

My only problem with the colors is that they seem awfully similar to Screamscape. (in the same style closet at least)
