RCDB down?

It's the 4th day I have suddenly been unable to get to it. I've seen no other mentions of any trouble. Is it a problem on my end? Or are others unable to get to the site?

Am using internet explorer and I keep getting "cannot find www.rcdb.com" or "this page cannot be displayed". Never had any trouble before.

Any suggestions? All other favorites load with no trouble-just this site...

There's a note on it saying he doubled his bandwidth by adding a second ISP. Probably had BGP-related problems, or DNS. Things happen. Shrug.

Sorry, I have no idea why it wouldn't work. I'm using IE too. Duane did just add a second line to the server so perhaps that's the source of the problem. I just tried again and it's loading quicker than ever for me. I was on a lot this weekend planning our June trip and had no problems.

Maybe drop a line to feedback@rcdb.com and see if you can get help from the source?

You know, we do have a database here, and it has hundreds of photos. Not as complete yet, but we've made some nice strides (in large part due to Gonchar's photo contributions).

I hope this isn't "spamming" as defined by Jeff. If so I apologize, just trying to help people out here.

If you were having problems, try now. I have word straight from the source that the problem seems to have been fixed and was asked to mention it. Being the nice guy (and RCDB fan) that I am (smile), I am passing the word along.

If all else fails take Jeff's suggestion and find the info here - some of the best pics on the net are here ;)

Hmmm, is that the same Lord Gonchar who shut down this exact same thread yesterday already with three posts here?
Hey Jeff, is there a particular reason why some of the coasters are now LOCKED DOWN from adding more photos? I notice that while some coasters at CP have 5 or more (some 10 or more), there's great coasters like Mindbender and Georgia Scorcher (just used SFoG as an example because I have great pics from there) only have 2 up. The pics of Mindbender don't even show it's correct color scheme anymore and that changeover was made several years ago.

Is it the real yellow or the yellow that they had on the coaster cars??

No JDB, that was the other Lord Gonchar.

Have you ridden a Toboggan?

The photos shown are what is submitted and don't suck. I can't show what hasn't been submitted.

I'll try and get some photos submitted this coming weekend! Got some new ones back, and probably some for rides that haven't already been submitted...;)

edit: RCDB is an excellent resource, and it's good to see that the site is back on the air!

I still have to scan my snaps I took inside Space Mountain with the lights on and submit those. I also took a crap load of snaps throughout Florida so those will all have to get scanned as well.

First and foremost, Lord Gonchar does not have the ability to shut down a thread. Trust me, if I did, I'd give "moderating nazi" a whole new meaning.

Secondly, it was the other thread that got closed.

Duane from RCDB dropped me a line mentioning this thread and asked if I'd pass the word along that the problem was resolved. Seemed worthy enough to me as so many people were having problems.

...hehe, I referred to myself in the third person. :)

Everybody wants to be a moderator or act like someone wronged them. It was a duplicate thread, so I closed it.

Duane is serving off of a high-speed DSL line, isn't he? Even if I could get one, that's my one reservation, the lack of a service level agreement.

Not sure what kind of lines he's using - only know a second one was recently added.

The problem was, and I quote, "a very odd DNS thing".

I'm not exactly "in the loop" - just happened to be in the right place at the right time to pass along the info.

Jeff, just in case you're interested, RCDB:

"use to run on a single 1.1meg DSL line. That was getting pegged quite often. So I added a second line via a different provider and now load balance between them. The good news is this gives me about 2meg of bandwidth and redundancy should one of my ISPs decide to go bankrupt."

And the problem is officialy solved. The site is up and running just fine for all.

It's been awhile since I dropped Duane a line. Perhaps I should!
