Ratings for Coasterbuzz games

Is it possible to restrict rating a ride only to those members who have at least downloaded the ride. I realize this will not eliminate all bogus ratings, but at least force those people to download the ride.

Why should I have to download a ride if I do not like it? And should I in fact not be able to rank a coaster low if I do not like what it looks like?

I rank solely on the layout and Station unless the themeing is outstanding in which case I rate solely on that.

It all comes down to the fact that i will not download a coaster I don't like and will rank it as I see fit.

Offseason Offseason what shall I do? Who cares the sun is still shining the sky is still blue! GET A LIFE!

It seems we have lost one of our best designers , Kick The Sky, due to the ratings gremlin. Something should be done! Let's hope Lord Gonchar doesn't also decide to stop posting.

If he stops posting its a loss for us but the reasons for him stopping are way off. The ratings are essentially meaningless anyway. I ipload stup to simply share it. It it gets good ratings fine.

If this bugs you so much I would rather that you had to post a comment to vote rather then download to vote. Seems like if it was known who you were you would be less apt to vote something way off what it shoudl be.

Having to download to vote wopuld solve little as it only take 5 seconds to download a track in the first place.

I AM WITTY!

The point is something needs to be changed! Maybe it's not a download. I'm just glad you suggested an alternative instead of simply ranting!

I also could care less if my stuff is in the top 10. I tend to search for member names. However I may notice someone else if the ratings seem high while I'm on the download page!

Lord Gonchar has a great idea eliminate the top 10. Maybe instead it could become What's new.

The top 10 should not be by rating, but rather by number of downloads. That's a truer measure of success
Perhaps instead of having a top 10 on the main page, a sorting feature could be implemented within the downloads section. This would allow users to sort by any of the columns, including rating and # of downloads. This could preserve the idea of the top 10, but remove the temptation of front-page exposure.

Of course one nice thing about the top 10 is that it requires at least 5 votes to be considered. That might need to be implemented into the sort as well, or else everyone could shoot their track to the top of the list in one vote.

Anyway, it's just a thought.

How about you have to write a response before you vote, an somehow automatically make the rating you gave the coaster come up.

Or, under the rating have a link where it lists th people's names who voted, and what they rated the coaster.

This way people would be more cautious before voting badly for a coaster.

Are these suggestions possible?

KICK THE SKY PLEASE COME BACK!!!

How about simply not caring what the rating is? If you see something you like, download it.

If you're going to stop posting because someone gives you a bad rating, it reeks of sour grapes to me.

New Kids On The Block had more hits on one of their albums than the Ramones did on all of their albums combined. Every single album released by Led Zeppelin was trashed by the critics. Tiffany sold more records than the Sex Pistols.

It's not a popularity contest. Not everything appeals to everyone, and just because what you like isn't popular doesn't mean it sucks and doesn't mean you don't know what you're talking about.

If you allow ratings without downloading a coaster you will get folks who go through and just randomly rate coasters zeros. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. And you also know it's not right for the reasons you're doing it.

I award kpjb 5 points for using Led Zeppelin to prove his point. I agree though, the rating doesn't really matter a whole lot to me, I usually decided whether I want to download something based on the screenshot and comments.

If you can get any comments! Personally that matters to me more than the ratings or number of downloads. Unfortunately it seems only about 7 or 8 members actually comment on anything. Those that do are greatly appreciated.

It takes one click and a "cancel" to make it appear someone downloaded a file, so that would be a pointless addition.

If you think you've been wronged, send me e-mail. I'm looking at the top 10 right now and it looks fair and right to me.

Jeff you're right the top ten does look fair at the moment. It seems to be working itself out, for the most part, since the topic started being discussed over here on the boards. Maybe simply discussing the problem has encouraged a few more people to be honest.
