It all depends on the person, but this is coming from a CP fan. Other parks just don't have the same feeling when you walk through the gates. *** Edited 2/8/2008 6:50:53 PM UTC by gomez***
So if you move Magnum to a different park and run it exactly the same you'd rank it lower simply because you cannot see Lake Erie?
Correct. The breathtaking view of the lake is part of its appeal. There are plently of coasters that are just as tall, fast, and run just as well, that don't seem as good, simply because of the view.
Would you rank it lower if you rode it at night and couldn't see the lake? Or with your eyes closed? Blindfolded?
For one, you can see the lake at night. But regardless, every coaster is more fun at night in my opinion. And blindfolded? Now that would be fun.
I just thought of a good example from my own experience. I actually prefer the ride of Steel Force at Dorney Park. However, I would rank Magnum higher because of the total experience. The ride is close, but the view puts it over the top.
You know, a lot of parks have to do a lot of work to sell you on the idea that you are "away from it all" with loads of theming, etc. Part of what has always made Cedar Point great is that you simply automatically feel that way simply because of the geography of the place.
Location isn't everything, but it matters...a lot. *** Edited 2/8/2008 7:42:48 PM UTC by OhioStater***

Partially. I with these guys. The appeal of the spectacular views, the wind off the lake, the sounds of the waterpark and speeding down along the beach and turning around at Sandcastle - it's all a tangible part of the experience.

Is that all you're hearing?
Was that necessary?
My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.
Moosh I dont think has been negitive on what he, she, (Sorry moosh) said. Moosh just opens up the floor for some debate and I respect anyones thought. I know for me, this is my hobby, Coasters is what I like to do, this is what I enjoy, this is me, this defines who I am!
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
The nice thing about being new St. Louis for school is that you're only about 3 hours from Holiday World!
Ha! The only thing is I've been down here for just over a year (summers not included) and still have not gone to Holiday World yet.. I plan on going opening day though this year! Then go back home to Great America if I have time this summer... EEK
