The bigger spine is for the higher stress point of the ride, just trust me, i know. I also have engineers that can back me up if you want to hear from them.
Also, on a side note, I would like to make a correction about the weight of a B&M train. I made a mistake when typing and just noticed it. The trains weight an average of 20,000lbs.
