Q&A Forums

It appears to me that lately, many of the posts that are going into General Buzz (some of my own included) are simply question posts, people looking for answers to questions about coasters from their fellow members, posts that could easily be answered and resolved in a day or so and don't really spur on very interesting discussion (at least not too often).

I think Jeff should make a new forum, strictly for questions and answers such as these. It would seem that the General Buzz section should be reserved for more in-depth and provocative coaster discussion, and by logging it down with Q&A problems, we slow down the progress of such discussion. If we leave a separate forum for all those pesky little things we just couldn't find out anywhere else, I would think that it would allow people to get solutions in a quicker, timelier manner, as well as keeping the discussion in General Buzz fresh, lively, and more interesting.

Jeff, everyone, what do you think?

Good concept, but the problem I see is how would the person asking the question know to put it in the Q&A forum instead of General? I know there are those quick little descriptions when you choose a forum, but I'd wonder how many people actually read beyond the title - there are so many problems getting people to read the FAQ!

I know people don't read the FAQs that much, but I would hope people would have enough sense to know the difference between a general, open-ended question or statement used to spur a discussion and a stupid little one-liner that could be answered within a day or two.

For example, let's look at recent topics. One forum asked for the advantages and disadvantages between SFWoA and SFGAm to help determine where he was going to go on his trip. This kind of topic could elicit very different, opinionated responses from people, and could also spark further discussion about the parks. PLOP! Into General Buzz it goes.

Now, recently, I posted a ridiculous forum about where Jeff got his signature quote from. Hmm...call me crazy, but that doesn't sound terribly controversial or thought-provoking...I just needed a sentence or two explanation. PLOP! Into Q&A it goes.

In short, it all comes down to common sense. Of course, this is a terribly ironic statement for me to make because anyone who knows me knows that I have ABSOLUTELY NONE!

I really don't understand why you want to further segment the conversation.

A lot of dumb crap gets posted. Eventually, we delete it. However, we all have lives, so naturally it doesn't happen instantly. You just have to hang in there until we can delete it. If it's a chronic problem, either we don't get out there enough or you're there too often. Either way, we do our best to take care of it.
