Bringing back a recently deceased topic:

I've spoken with Brent about his additions/mods to his pads for better playability (ply wood backing, nylon sheet over top, wire to outline squares)...anyone else have any ideas for ways to prevent moving and generally increase playability?

I'm probably going to get the soft pads with foam inserts but I'm playing on these soft pads with no insert on an industrial rug in my dorm room and the pads keep moving around and bunching up and generally pissing me off...

And if your mods are specific to a certain kind of pad, please indicate.

Just pick up the foam-filled pads; they're cheap and you won't need mods.

If you insist on modding, the ones I've seen are just duct-taped to a piece of plywood. It's more work than it's worth though, considering you can get the foam pad for $25.

Or - also worth noting, the metal pads are going quite cheaply on eBay right now... less than $50. Although the sellers are charging $45 for shipping. Still, these will last you a long time and will not slip a millimeter.

If you buy metal pads, just make sure you get the ones that come in one piece, not the ones you have to put together yourself.

As for modding. I got the soft pads with foam inserts and pretty much hated them at first. I kept getting the infamous "sticky arrow" and they slid around like crazy, even though I was playing on hard floor. Anyway, we got wood flooring in our living room and they put this thin blue foam under the wood, so I asked the guy if I could have the extra foam. I put a couple of pieces of that inside the pads, and they've been awesome ever since. Sorry I can't give you more info on what the stuff is or where you can get it, but it definately works well. ;)
