Problem in games.coasterbuzz.com

There are dozens of files uploaded every day. What possible incentive does one have to download a file if they can't see it?

Rating. But if their rating gets screwed into the ground from people voting on it without downloading it, then that goes out the window too.

Maybe it's just you, because I think it's fair to say that 99% of the people don't download what they can't see first. I don't download most I can see, I'm certainly not going to chance on something I can't.

I agree that some people try to bring down others' files by giving them a low mark because of the Top Ten thing. I've seen files that were highly rated one day, and then down to like 4-5 the next day, just because they can vote so easily.

-----------------
It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

It's more like they can change their vote easily. I think once you vote it should stay locked in..

I don't care to much about the top ten. It's neet to see something I did on it, but I do it for the joy of one person liking it. If I make one person happy that's all that matters.

OK I guess I will put my two cents in on this one.

1.) I don't care about the ratings much. I was happy to have a coaster that made the top ten for a week and was even #1 for a couple days. However, the nice comments from guys like Kick the Sky and Lord Gonchar and the others was even better. I like to create becuase I am creative. I will continue to share anything decent I make. (check out the saved game section for my elevator ride)

2. In the interest of fairnes, and to quiet the unjustly rated. I think the idea of making people comment on a rating would be a reasonable way around the problem. I have not always taken the time to do so, but wouldn't mind doing that if it makes the game fairer for all.

The only complaint I have is tracks that end up in the saved game category. Kind of irks me because they're not complete parks but just tracks.

Yes, Feel the Strike, it is annoying both for the people who loved "true" saved games, and for us track designers. I can't save my new elevator ride as a track becuase the scenery is "spread out to far" or something like that. Also it is four seperate elevators (each identical yet rotated). It just wouldn't work as a track design. Maybe a seperate category could be set up for them. They can not go into the track area, becuase they can't be downloaded and dropped in.

However, in the case of my Air Pavillion, I included the rest of my fantasy park, which is a work in progress. That way I could showcase my ride, and hopefully get feedback on the rest of my layout.

I think that a most downloaded category would be helpful too and make a way to not count every time someone downloads a file, only the first time.

Here is my latest problem. Look at my last thread on this link:

http://games.coasterbuzz.com/filedetail.aspx?GameFileID=730

What do you think?

How about this...people show whole coasters in the screenshot, so the potential downloaders can see the the ride in whole, and not depend on the ratings to download it or not.

EDIT: One more thing- Who the hell cares if it was kicked of the top ten because someone gave it a zero? It is just for fun (you won't become a world-renowed coaster designer if your coaster made the top ten) , and there is nothing you can do to stop the ones that give good coasters zeros.

First off I don't give a damn about the top ten, and that wasn't kicked off the top ten. If someone gives me a zero I wanna know why. I just wish people would be more considerate and not think of themselves.

And now some idiot went in and low ranked EVERYTHING on the top ten. It looks like for some of those rides it took more than one zero to drop it. I just dont get why someone would do that other than to be mean and malicious.

Maybe we could have only two rating options: 9 or 10. Then everyone would be happy.

Seriously, I don't see the advantage of making people comment on a coaster. Someone could just comment "I give this a 2" and you'd still not know why they don't like it. You'd know who did it, but not why. Chances are, they would use an alias screen name anyhow.

Someone just 0 ranked my coaster American Dream to drop it from the top 10. My coaster was made a while ago and probably lost all chance to be downloaded ever again because of this idiot. Jeff, is there any way to tell who votes for what? I think that voting should not be anonymous.

EDIT: People do over rank coasters, but it's all reletive as Einstein once said.

Hey Jeff, you may have someone else to delete as the entire top ten got hit by another zero virus again. Just thought I would let you know.

Cheers,

Well if it's a really good file, then it should probably all balance out after it has been ranked by more people, right?

American Dream has no zero votes, but it is over 14 days old, and therefore no longer qualifies. The top 10 is real time, and the exactly 14 days to the second after it's uploaded, it may drop off the top 10.

If you ask me, most people rate everything too high. Something has to be pretty freakin' special for me to give it a 8 or higher.

Well Jeff, you said that the member that was giving zero's was no longer a member anymore. Well, you made me a non-member, and I had nothing to do with the ratings of zero's. So, it sounds like to me, if you were talking about me, which I'm sure you were, then you need to get it right. If you are not positive, then don't act on it!

Not positive? What the hell are you talking about? EVERY vote is associated with a user profile. Why do you think your vote is still there when you go back to the file?

And don't flatter yourself, I wasn't talking about you. I booted you because you're annoying.

Run along...
