I dont know I grade on Screenshots. I go by layouts. If i dont like them I grade them poorly.
I always trate my own coasters at 10 but I never intentionally rate anyone elses lower unless in fact I don't like the ride.
Downloading a coaster I don't like is obvioulsy a dumb thing to do. And I rate the ones I don't liek poorly. Easy as that.

I agree! I haven't had this happen on my tracks yet(knock on wood), but I have seen it. Rateings should not be based off screenshots alone. There could be elements and/or themeing on a coaster, that you may not see in the screenshot.
I always download and view before I rate a track/park. And I never rate my own creations.

I enjoy 3 things in life, coasters, video games and girls. To have all 3 at the same time will be a dream come ture!
Elements or themeing whatever. I described this well in a post on the suggestions board.
Although this may not be true for others
I rank my coaster based soley on layout and station. If the layout is not to my likeing I will not downloaded and i will not ranking horribly high although I have yet to rank anything under a 6 even if it crazy. Well unless someone says the layout is extremely accurate as a reproduction when it is so far off it's not even funny.
If the theming is amazing I will rank just based on that.
But like I say, whey shoudl I have to download a coaster I don't like if from the screen shot it looks awful to me?
I go for extreme realism and all my rankings are based on that. It's just my criteria.
It's not as if anyone can stuff the ballot box. You only get one vote.
As for not uploading anymore because the rankings aren't the greatest. Big deal, I feel this way sometimes but I don't upload things to get them rated. I just want to share what I have. No Biggy ya know? I don't mean to be in any way shape or form mean about it at all but this is just my criteria for ranking. Sorry if it upsets ya'll.
By the way I have ranked a lot of coasters 10's when I have not downloaded them this especially holds true for Lord Gonchar as his layouts aren't what I love but the Themeing is impecable. Should I have to download stuff which took a lot of time and creativity yet I do just not like?
I also always start out by ranking my own coaster. Which I do not see a problem with as everyone can do it.
-Brent Who generally ranks a coaster he is not fond of a 6 or 7 unless it is gawdawful.

It takes all of 5 seconds to download a track and then simply trash it. Do you honestly think this would stop anyone?
IMO it would be a lot smarter to require that a person post in order to vote. Would sure cut down on ridiculously low ratings if you were forced to fess up.
And Bob, don't stop uploading. Ratings mean little anyway. The fun is in sharing them. It's not like you are going to get any award anything. The people that appreciate them are the only ones you are hurting.

Yeah, it's ridiculous but in a funny way. I won't stop uploading. I'm not in it for the top 10 (like the gremlins seem to be). I'm in it to share ideas and files. The place it ticks me off is the fact that, to me, the rating is supposed to be descriptive of the quality of the file in question - thus telling me whether it's even worth downloading or not.
The best thing that could happen over there is Jeff removing the top 10 list. It removes all reasoning behind any ulterior motives. Screw the top 10, it just creates this kind of crap that makes it not worth it. Heck if it mattered I'd just use all my spare time to create multiple accounts and use creative cookie control to vote multiple 10's for myself and multiple zeroes for all the rest (like other over there are doing). Lose the top 10 altogether and make it a fun place to share ideas - That's my suggestion.
As far as how I rate. I always download an see the ride first hand. I try to be diplomatic and not rate at all if my honest opinion is less than 7. But with some of these "self voters" obviously using multiple accounts in an attempt to be noticed on one of the smallest trading boards around, I get sucked in at times and am forced to fight back - not for the top 10, but so people can trust the ratings.

The rating system is terrible and very unreliable because of the mentioned "malicious" attacks. Do what I do and ignore the rating and the download count. Evaluate the ride yourself, and take time to view the screenshot or download the ride.
Vote however you feel, but make use of the COMMENTS!!! The only thing that keeps me uploading is the positive comments I receive. If you feel strongly about someone's design/layout, post your vote and some supporting verbage in the comments section. The comments mean more to me than the rating.
As long as I know somebody gave me a 9 or 10, that makes my day and it motivates me to make more creations. If the design really sucks, then tell them why and maybe they'll improve or we won't see anymore from that person.
That is what I am talking about Greg.
The idea that I have to download a ride that I have no intention of using just ticks me off. The screenshot does plenty for my rating criteria which is 99.9 % realism.
I would be extremely happy to just get comments. Ratings be damned.

Then if a screenshot does not accurately reflect the ride, you should not vote. Many people DO download based on the rating people give it.

Wanna Ride A Woodie?
I don't vote in that case MrKarno.
And it appears that you are one of the gremlin culprits as my coaster went from a rating of 8.5 to 7 with one vote, yours. I wonder how that happened.
I rated your latest two coasters a ten and an 8 respectively. WITHOUT downloading them.
Edit : Wow after Posting this my rating of my latest coaster mysteriously jumped back up to an 8.2 with no more votes. I wonder how that happened?

I keep seeing all of these complaints about ratings, yet I don't get any e-mail complaining of specific instances so I can deal with it. If you think you've been wronged, let me know.

Jeff: I have sent you an email which you did respond to about the problem before you left on your trip.
I think a nice solution to the problem would be that in order to rate the coaster, you must comment on the coaster. As a general rule, for the last week or so, anything I rate I comment on. If I dont comment on it, I dont rate it. This way people can still rate based off of screenshots, BUT they have to give their input on it.
Other than that from now on I really dont give a schnit about the rating or my ranking anymore. I have received wonderful comments from many of you out there on my coasters and that alone is motivation to continue. Thanks everyone for the support!

Holiday_World_Fan doesn't like the fact that people aren't putting screenshots with their rides. Don't ask me why.
