Power riding and marathoning

I think most of us are extremely interested in how the two marathon events (see news) are going to turn out, and it makes our minds wonder how much fun it'd be to try. I'm a huge fan of getting rerides on coasters, but I don't know if I have it in me to try to marathon--- all day, much less several days in a row. I mean, these guys ride from morning til night for days on end.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to try, but I have a feeling my body would give way after say a few hours. What do you guys think? How long do you HONESTLY think you could ride over and over on a coaster? For those who would say they could go the whole time, please give some proof as to why you feel you could. Hopefully, that should weed out some of the "me!" "I could" shortsighted response a thread like this could spawn.

My honest answer?? MAYBE 5 hours, max...

It depends on the coaster, I would think. I could probably ride Millennium Force all day long, but I took 10 rides in a row on Raptor and that was more than I could handle.

Physically, it would be difficult, but mentally, it would be equally difficult. I'd have to think that boredom would set in at some point.

I think I'm with Homey G. on this one. As much fun as it sounds like, I know I couldn't last 30 days on a coaster. I think I would not be able to sleep comfortably enough on the seat.

My MAX might be one full 24 hour day, after that I would NEED to get off and lay down in a real bed!

Nothing... NOTHING... can prepare you for... the Fourth Dimension!

I could last longer on some coasters as opposed to others but there's no way I would even begin to think I could last more than a few hours; nor would I want to.

It really depends on which coaster you are going to marathon on. Like Mark said, 10 rides on Raptor would probbably be just about it for me...but a ride like Hoosier Hurricane at Indiana Beach that is nice and relaxing I could do all day without a problem. But sure, after a while, you are going to get bored...but if I was doing it for a brand new car, I wouldn't care ;)

I personally don't think any coaster with inversions would ever be considered for a marathon event. I could be wrong, but the forces are different and would greatly reduce the amount of time you could marathon.

I'm up for a marathon on Great Bear @ Hershey Park!

I've done two marathons myself. I did one on GASM at SFOG all day from open til close (10AM - 8 PM)..got off for only bathroom breaks (which was a Port-a-potty) in the station) and got 127 rides.

I also did one on Kraken from 10AM til 7PM and got 91 Rides. I took one break for the bathroom. The station employees gave us water, and we had Power Bars for food. It was very hard on the body and I was soar for about 2 days afterwards.

It was hard for the first 50 rides, but after that, I think we were just so beat, it didn't matter anymore.

As long as the coaster is not unbearably rough i think i could go for a month!! I'm young and in shape so i don't get beat up on many coasters even if their known for being rough. I would absolutely love to be a part of a marathon! In fact, if anyone has any info on how i can be a part of one, let me know!!

They said only a few made the medical requirments, what exactly are these. I'm normally pretty healthy but if only 3 or 4 made it out of 40, does anyone know what they are?

I don't know... but that guy who's going for the boat and 2,000 is apparently 100 pounds heavier than he was when he did it 25 years ago, so it must not be that stringent.

Just 'cause the guy was "overweight" doesnt mean that he isnt in good shape. Using those (outdated) standard height / weight charts, the boxer Evander Holyfield is considered "overweight".

I doubt any of us are in better shape than he is ;)

Granted Jeremy.. but he was described as having a "buddha-like" belly.. and his only gripe was the lap bar being tight. Just saying.. That doesn't make him any more/less likely to be able to pull something like this off.. but still.. if he gained 100 pounds, he's at least 250 now. Now 250 isn't usually the range where they describe bellies in such a manner. If he passed the medical test and others didn't...

And where were you during CBC? Thought you'd be there.

I got 17 on AC in one day and I wasn't getting tired of it. I think a nice smooth B&M hyper I could go for a full day, but not much more. It'd really depend on my motivation. At some point I'd probably just wonder why I cared...

A rollercoaster? What's that?

Maybe a new boat and 2 grand might be all the motivation you need, Andy! ;)

ACEerCG, I was just going to say that. :)

I watched her power ride the 1st day of Timbersfest. She has dedication. O course, I would have done it too, had I not been with someone who isnt into that.

Hey man. Wanna buy some weed? Crack? Freepass on Millennium Force? I got the hook up...

I Love marathoning my Favorite ride: S:UE. I could stay on there 24/7. My longest marathon in a day was 8 hours. I would have LOVED to stay on longer but sadly enough it was closing time :( I Rode Open ~ Close though, it was Awesome.

The Giant Dipper at SCBB would be a great coaster to do a marathon on. I could probably go 2-3 days max. Hey, it wouldn't be too hard to sleep. Just get a really good pillow!

~I rode my first coaster June 2001 and since then I have ridden 43 different coasters!

I'd ride Big Bad John all day and all night. I could kick back with a news paper, a couple of magazines, and a beer, and if I was sleepy I'd grab my pillow, and take a nap, since on this ride you don't have to be worried about excessive speed, or any real suprises.
