Post Pandemic Riding

My trip to Europe in June was cancelled so my friend and I are just moving everything to next year and we are going to go to the Olympics in Tokyo. Real bummed about the trip getting canceled but I am banking so many vacation days now that I can't take any of my trips. So 2021 is going to see a lot of vacations!

I am hoping to get to KI at the end of June and Carowinds in July. I am fortunate enough to have a job deemed essential and they are paying me extra per week to be there. Lucky for me, I have not needed the $2900 I received from the federal government to cover my bills. Combine that with my federal refund the week before and I am sitting on the money to cover both trips and then some.

Side note: I bought a 2020 Subaru Forester about 6 weeks ago, so I look forward to my trips being a little more comfortable than in my 2011 Hyundai Sonata that I have used for the last 4 years.

As usual, I'm a little late to the party (thread).

As much as I want (and in a selfish way may I say) NEED to get out and go to some parks...I am not going and intend to be far away when parks first start opening up.

I will most likely see how everything plays out. If the heat of the summer helps to knock this plague out...then maybe I'll go local in Mid July. I will be anxiously reading everyone's trip reports to help gage how things are going.

I also plan to refrain from crowded places such as beaches, subways and concerts as well. I was given a concert ticket as a present for a June show at Jones Beach, but I don't even know if it will take place yet. If it does...I still might not go.

My take on it is that my area has been hit VERY hard with cases, hospitalizations and sadly deaths...and everything I have been doing and not doing has worked out so far. Thankfully, I am working from home.

I said this in another thread, but I guess this is the appropriate one. I'll most likely sit out my home park this year. (CP) I've done everything there and there's no real point in going back under new, still unknown rules that will most likely suck a lot of fun out of what is supposed to be an escape.

That being said, if I find myself someplace that I really would like to go, like Iron Gwazi, then I would make an exception, go to the park, and deal with whatever weird system they have in place.

I'm glad I have no passes currently except for $5/mo Six Flags, or I'd really have wasted a lot of money.

I'll be heading to Cedar Point. I'm sure whatever procedures are put into place if they open isn't going to be a prime experience but I have the passes already and I live reasonably close so not too much effort or money needed to go. I was originally planning on a Kings Island trip this year but doubt that it would be worth the drive and hotel expenses for whatever experience we can get at the parks this year. Ironically my household is currently set to be in better shape financially than we have been for several years and now there's hardly any options to enjoy that situation to its fullest available.

Looks like US cruises are going to get bumped out to October at the earliest now. Norwegian announced a couple of days ago, now the other major players (Carnival & RCCL) aren't allowing any bookings on their site until October.

I'm guessing there will be an official announcement soon. This time we are just going to take the refund. With the school year starting back up in some form we are just going to punt on any 2020 vacation plans.

Bummer...

I'm in downtown Toronto, my local park is Canada's Wonderland, and not sure when they are expected to get back open but don't think it's anytime soon. Our emergency orders for Ontario are expected to be extended until mid July. The rest of Ontario went into stage two recently of opening but while Toronto is still in stage 1 for now.

I've made peace with the fact that I'm probably not going to head up to CW this year and likely not until there's a vaccine. We don't have a car and take transit up which is as of last year, a long subway ride up and a transfer to a bus in Vaughan. Taking transit isn't appealing and have no idea how they'd socially distance with the usually rammed bus for CW. I'm totally pro mask but wearing one around in a hot theme park isn't appealing. Also CW's operations are ok at the best of times and the idea of them having to clean and load every other row is great that they're trying to keep people safe, but also doesn't sound like a fun day to me.

My season pass has been rolled over to 2021 so looking forward to riding then and keeping fingers crossed that I have a ski season!
