Possible Dorney Park event date

I know it's not possible to satisfy everyone with an event date, but generally speaking, how does May 21, strike you?

Darn guys, I'll be at Knoebels that day. I'm hitting Dorney the day before, and with the way the parks schedule's are set, I won't be able to change it. Sorry, I guess no CB event for me this year.

There's always BeastBuzz @ PKI ;)

Hey, we still haven't gotten a 'no' for the 28th.

There's still hope :)

Oh, the irony I see unfolding in front of my eyes..

I live 5 minutes from Dorney, and due to work obligations it's looking like it'll be *easier* for me to go to BeastBuzz in June.. :(

Well, I already have my tickets and hotels lined up, including the early season Dorney ticket which may not be available for Memorial Day weekend, I don't know. As for PKI, I planned on trying to hit the park in August.. I don't think the dates in June work out :(

There is always hope though!

No date will satisfy anyone, and again, I have to see what jives with the park as well. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some giant far reaching conflict.

Which is perfectly fine by me... planning something on such a large level will never leave everyone happy.

Mine's not far reaching.. only about 4 miles ;)

I understand it's not possible to please everyone. Regardless which date you/Dorney decide upon, I will do my best to make it. If I can't, well, then I'll just have to see you guys on the other side of the height stick. ;) Life goes on. I already have the dates for PKI secured, so at the very least I'll make it there (and Solace, for whoever's going).

I'd go any date, it'd be fun, my first enthusiast event!

Agreed you can't please everyone, and I doubt anyone would get horribly upset.

Beastbuzz is a given for me (and TheRealCP). I do want to go to Dorney, but if I can't make the Coasterbuzz con trip, I'll make it some other time.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

The 21st gets my vote, hands down. Possible Ka ERT on the 22nd per Coaster Zombies and Much lower attendance by general public than on a Holiday weekend.

Where did this idea that memorial day weekend is busier come from?

It's traditionally been a weekend we try to hit parks. Most people are concerned with the picnics, get-togethers, family, the unofficial start of summer, etc. It's one of the best amusement park weekends in my experience, with low crowds, short waits and nice weather. Most casual park-goers are busy with other things. We've been doing memorial day weekend trips since 1993 (used to be just KW before the 'enthusiast' days) and have been at one park at the least that weekend every year since. (in recent years we've turned it into a great 3 park early season trip)

I lived in Allentown for the 2002 & 2003 seasons. Dorney was no more crowded that weekend than the other weekends in May - which is to say the park is next to dead. Hydra may affect those early season crowds, but Memorial Day weekend in my experience over the past 12 years is usually a great time to hit the parks.

Do you guys really have horror stories of large crowds on that weekend? I've never seen it.

With all of that said, I will be there regardless of which weekend, but before Jeff posted this thread and date, my personal plans were to head out that way on Memrial Day weekend. It'd be perfect for low crowd trips to the other parks in the area on Sunday & Monday following the event.

The other events (and tons of enthusiasts in the area) is yet another reason I personally would avoid the 21st weekend. I can see how piggybacking onto the event the next day at SFGAdv could be an argument for the 21st, but my personal approach is to avoid that sort of thing.

Just doing some personal lobbying here. :)

The Great Adventure event is a park sponssored event, not a Coaster Zombies event, and Coaster Buzzers are welcome as well as any other coaster clubs out there!

FWIW Coaster Celebration on May 21st & 22nd is not a done deal. Because of the tempermental nature of these rides, the event "might" even be placed toward the end of the year. *IF* CB picks 21st for their Dorney event *AND* Gradv has their event that same weekend, i'll push for Kingda Ka ERT to be on sunday, so CBers may attend.

Either date works here, never been to Dorney, would love to go!

I, for one, can't wait for the Italian Job to open...looks awesome to me!

Does anyone have any more info on the Kingda Ka/SFGAdv event? If CBuzzClub is "accepted", I'd like to try and head to that if possible as well.

Speaking as one of those "most other people" who'd be concerned with picnics and family get togethers, my personal preference would be for the 21st. Of course, that might be extra incentive to make it the 28th.
I am not sure how other schools work around the US but here in IA we have high school graduations, not sure if that would way any though but just something else to think about.

<--has a grad party to go to on the 21st but if this goes the 21st I say "so sorry should have notified me earlier to my family and will be at Dorney"

hehe, aren't I evil, skipping a boring high school grad party for my cousin to ride roller coasters, what would you pick???????

Skol Vikings
Let's shoot us some deer Joe Joe!!!!

Just tell him you weren't sure he was actually going to graduate, so you made other plans.
LOL! Invite him along.. perhaps he wouldn't mind skipping his own boring party? (especially if his parents are the one throwing it and not him) ;)
