Police looking for people who trespassed at Dorney and climbed 200 feet up Dominator to steal flag

Posted | Contributed by Jason Hammond

Two young men and two young women trespassed into Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom after the theme park had closed Sunday night and climbed about 200 feet up Dominator and stole a flag, South Whitehall police said Friday.

I wonder if the kids at least used some climbing gear. It's a strange story. It's like they are ghosts or something.

Dorney seems to be in the news a lot over the last few years, mostly for negative reasons.

And heck yea, it is wrong to trespass onto private property. If one of hose kids were hurt while there, you better believe that there would have been a lawsuit against the park, undeservingly. It's like someone breaking into my house and juggling my kitchen knifes.

I submitted this story to news a few days ago, for the record. :p

They were pretty ballsy. Dominator has the two towers with the ride, but the third has a latter contained between the lattices. The top of Dominator's three support towers is a catwalk that connects them. The three flagpoles are mounted along this catwalk. It would be relatively easy, yet horrifying, to climb that thing and get that flag.

I've had to climb a 110' Ladder Tower at night.

It can be disorienting, especially going down.

I don't know what kind of surface the Dominator ladders have, but the other issue, bare metal can get slippery in cold weather, especially when the sun first goes down.

Maybe they didn't get rehired either.

First thing I thought when I heard this story was that it had to be employees.

Or guys from other Cedar Fair parks wanting their flags back.

Reminds me of the urban explorers at Carowinds who climbed Nighthawk and Intimidator while it was being built. Those guys documented their adventure for everyone's viewing pleasure, though.

The trick was to surrender to the flow.

Yes, that is totally an employee move.

I don't think they're from around here because the cameras show a few of them plain as day and no one knows who they are.

That's what she said.

Maybe this was a protest of the situation with the autistic fellow around whom the other story centers. Maybe these people...employees or not...were trying to bring attention to his plight.

This is Dorney and it seems to involve people scamming their way into the park without paying. I'm surprised no one has asked the most important question:

Were they black?

Most of the photos released are of the suspects in the control booth for the ride. That also seems to point in the employee direction, but is also odd given that they stole a flag. Maybe they messed with the ride as well? Is that possible to do in January?

I'm trying to find the joke in there....but nah. Plus us people of color do not climb isht for no reason.

They were able to sneak in and do this without any problems because Dorney Security people were all too busy playing with Legos in order to try to pass the new employment tests!

That girl looks like she just beat mindcraft after using her hookah, and she needs a new flag for her structure.

Ask not what you can do for a coaster, but what a coaster can do for you.

Yeah, this is a weird inside joke that is kind of funny but to someone who doesn't know the history, it is probably incredibly offensive. This is one Coasterbuzz meme that need to die.
