Podcast Question

Howdy guys,

I was just wondering what programs/software ya'll use to do the Coasterbuzz podcast. It's easily one of the highest quality ones I've heard, and was just wondering what you use to get such a nice sound from multiple locations.

Thanks

I believe they use Skype.
I've used Skype before, and I must say they're getting some pretty NICE results if that's what they're using -- although I've never used Skype comp to comp. *** Edited 8/21/2007 3:24:59 AM UTC by Konstantine***

If you have good microphones and a good way to interface them to the computer, you can get very good results with Skype. I use my laptop as the Skype computer, which outputs to a mixer, and the mixer sends back a "mix minus" with my microphone and the phone (for call-in guests). Then the mixer feeds my desktop where the audio is recorded using Soundtrack Pro.

Bingo! Thanks for the help. That's a great way to do it, and I never would've thought of it. Can you control the individual balance between each line through the mixer, or do you have to balance them manually once finished?

I have two tin cans connected with a string and I put one beside my computer and yell real loud into the other. At some point I boot up Skype and click a few buttons on it.

Been working so far. :)

I have a cheap Bluetooth headset, and you can hear the difference in the segments I'm active. Last time I was in (the one where we were having major connectivity issues) I was just using a plain old XBox Live headset, and that actually sounded BETTER.

I never change the pots on the mixer because it's always the same equipment. I apply the compressor/limiter effect on the recorded track to smooth it out when we're done.

I recorded one episode that way because I didn't have Soundtrack Pro installed on the laptop.
