PM blocking?

I've gotten more than enough hate mail in my PM box this week. I know, I probably bring enough of it on myself, but I love it how people are so incredibly infantile that they can't take someone disagreeing with them or whatever on an 'adult' geared board, that they have to write a 4 page letter telling you how they can't stand you.

I have my Profile hidden because I don't want emails from people that don't need to email me, can we block PMs as well, with the exception of maybe a safe list, in the next version, Jeff?

Sorry if I sound whiney, but thats just me. I'm stressed, sucky week for innocent people.:)

I'll put it on my todo list, but no promises.

Just don't read your private messages! If some idiot sent me a 4 page letter that was hate mail I would start reading it, realize it was not worth reading, stop reading and just delete it, and life goes on. You making a post on this subject will probaly make them send you more hate mail. I don't think a safe list is needed.

You are right this was a very sucky week for the people in NO and their families. I am praying for them all.

I dont' read it, but if someone is sending hate mail, that is wrong, and harassing. I'd just rather have the option to block the person because they sent mail after I asked them to stop anywho (one of them).

Clint, As you know I have been in this situation myself and have asked Jeff the same questions.

If the same people (or person) keeps harrassing you just don't open the messages. As you know the sender can see that you have read their message or not. Just don't read it and don't respond. It's not worth it. Sooner or later they will give up and get a life. If it becomes too much of a problem I am sure Jeff will help you out, like he's done for me in the past.

Chances are they are trolls, and will eventually go away as long as you don't feed them. ;-)

I do agree that a blocking option would be beneficial.

TeknoScorpion on 2nd thought you are right someway to block people who are harrasing you is probbaly a good idea.

Even though my haters have pretty much ignored me, I have always thought that a blocking feature for PMs would be usefull.

Its just a bunch of 19 year old kids, Tuan. Part of the point of bringing it up (besides the obvious) is to show them how idiotic they are with all your responses, which seems to have worked ;).

But, you know, if they get, um, like, hurt or something, I don't know anything about it and I'll be off in the corner whistling ;).

Antuan, I will solicit your services to cover MY back as well. I am stalker-free this year thank GOD, but you can never be too safe.

Well, in six short days, turning 20 will alleviate that confusion -- because we all know that on the day you turn 20, you totally become an awesomely mature and conscientious member of adult society. ;)

Oh boo hoo. I send this guy a single PM about why he finds it necessary to provoke me with unnecessary personal stabs when he doesn't agree with my opinions and always puts people down for no reason warranted, and he calls it hate mail as if I've sent multiple threating letters. So my bad if I didn't want to drag out that thread by Matthew by contributing to the developing flamwar and decided to contact TeknoScorpion on a one-on-one personal basis about the problem. And this guy goes public looking for sympathy and makes himself out as a victim in the situation!

You know, had you wanted to contact me privately, you should have been a bit better at it and not tried insulting me for 4 long paragraphs.

I'm not looking for sympathy, I'm not making myself out to be a 'victim', I just don't want you to bother me. Like I said, if you can't handle other people's attitudes and personalities on this board, perhaps you shouldn't post.

If I really wanted anybody to know who, and get sympathy, I would have posted names, but I see I didn't have to. Here is an excerpt from your PM to me:

...do you find the need to be such an ass in your comments? You KNOW the way you respond to some people, so just think about it for a second. And you know you do it for some inner reason you don't want to realize about yourself.

How adult of you. If you had a problem, the best way to handle it would be like other people (some of which I still have yet to respond to because I've been busy dealing with the kiddies) and say 'Hey, I know we disagree, I feel this or that way, and I'd like to know if there is a problem to be worked out'. Instead, you try your best (and do a poor job) at shrinking me.

Get a life, and grow up. If you can't stand what I post, be it to you or anyone else, either contact me in a more adult way, or complain to Jeff, just like I have. Simple as that.

Oh, and PS, you weren't the only person to PM me this week, thus the 'plural' denotation.

This is quickly turning into a contest of who needs to get a life on a Saturday night...
