Planners OK new coaster for Dorney Park

Posted | Contributed by Rick_UK

South Whitehall planners unanimously recommended allowing Dorney Park to go forward with its plans for a new roller-coaster in 2012. Park spokesman Chuck Hutchison said the ride is similar to Invertigo, a roller-coaster that's leaving Cedar Fair's Great America park this year after problems in 2009.

I didn't know that similar translated into the exact same ride.

Voodoo is pretty similar to Steel Venom, if I recall.

Mayhaps it'll get the upgraded restraint system. *crosses fingers*

No, Vater... I think it was more similar to Superman: Ultimate Escape.

Hi

I would argue that Steel Venom was more similar to Superman: Ultimate Escape than either of those, by themselves, are to Voodoo.

I wonder if Dorney's spokesman thinks Voodoo is similar to Possessed....

"...and it's no 300-foot-tall Steel Force"

I didn't know one of my home parks had a giga coaster

"The ride won't cause the numbers to spike, he repeated."

Then why add the ride? It seems like a waste of money to move the ride and refurbish it if it isn't going to increase attendance that much.

"...park representatives said noise will be nothing in comparison to the nearby Steel Force"

Steel Force isn't that noisy, especially when Voodoo is probably the loudest coaster in the park and will be right near Invertigo.

Even though I knew it was very likely the coaster was coming to the park, I was still hoping they wouldn't go through with it, like how they decided not to send Demon Drop to Knott's.

Is all this pick up by the mainstream press about the ride's history in part due to the announcements by Great America?

I can't remember the press ever picking up on something like this during any of the relocations over the years.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Honestly, I don't get it, Expecially in a park with a full up inverted. Yeah it don't go backwards but Talon is a solid coaster :)

Maybe KI can get a real hyper or inverted if they are going to put simular rides in. Oh wait. KI has two inverts, used to be three

No, Talon, um...don't [sic] go backwards (I don't know of a full up [sic] inverted that does), but I think it makes less sense to add an inverted shuttle to a park that has an inverted shuttle.

Expecially [sic].

Yeah, I can't understand why they added Possessed, since they had Talon. Or why they added Hercules when they had Thunderhawk. Or why they added Hydra when they had Laser. I mean, more than one coaster with similar seats? Crazy!

^I am still trying to figure out what the third Invert was...

Scooby's Ghoster Coaster was a suspended, the same as Top Gerrrrr Flight Deck.

So that's 2... still want to know what the 3rd is/was.

I had been awake about five minutes when I wrote that. Had totally forgotten about Diamnonback and even Possessed.
Oh Vey
