Well today is PKI's media day, and as usual, it was full of surprises.
Here's what we know for this season and was confirmed (by Jeff Siebert at PKI):
Runaway Reptar coaster and Wild Thornberries log flume were operational and quite enjoyable. Reptar is mainly a Vekoma inverted roller skater. It has Face/Off style cars. One train only, holding 20 people.
Thornberries: if you have been on Kings Mills flume, then this is no different. Theming is the main draw, and 90% of that is in and around the station house. Still a great flume ride.
Flight of Fear will have lap bars, but we couldn't see it today. The trains were on loan to PKD for some reason anyway.
7th Portal will be running opening day. Smash Factory (the other movie showing in the theater) will open in late spring. 7th Portal was not running today.
Lastly, and the BIGGEST news: Keatons Cove Keelboats is NO MORE! It will be torn down (confirmed by Jeff Siebert again) to make room for the 2002 attraction. All he would say is that it'll be 'Adventurous'. (Maybe the Tomb Raider dark ride may be true after all) This season you'll see walls surrounding the ride when they start the removal this summer.
I really just wanted to cover major points. Others may expound on their experience at media day.
They even had 'Mad Dog'(was it Marilyn? She was the third person expelled is all I know) Hershey from Survivor 2 and Nick Cannon from Nickelodeon there to 'grandly open' the rides.
All in all a fun day.
Any idea when removal/construction of KCKC will start?
And about it being 'adventurous', after seeing Mr. Siebert in action many many many times, this could mean almost anything :)

Unfortunately, Scott, his phrase choosing when he mentioned this was unclear about both A) when it will start and B) what adventurous meant. I suspect the walls for KCKC will start going up at the beginning of summer since they didn't seem to be up today. Secondly, his mentioning 'adventure' in some form was very vague, as he usually is :). But by the way it sounded (and it's WAY early to tell), it sounded huge and not a coaster (but that may be me). He did acknowledge the '30th anniversary' if that means anything. Of course it was 6:30 in the morning and the caffine might not have taken effect, but as usual, I digress.

Well All I can say is that what kings island will be doing will be something big. IT is there 30th birthday so you can be on something really large. Money wouldn't be an issue if they get good attendence for this season because still have a lot of profits from last season.
All i can say is that it is sad another twenty five year old attraction is gone, but on the flip side, whatever will replace it, surely will be a huge attraction as its the 30th anniversary, even if its not a coaster!
I was stuck in a web page class (like I need it) and I was looking at the pki webcam around 2. Their were a lot of media just standing around, looking like they were waiting for something. Can anyone fill me in please?

"Adventurous" is too broad of a description for anyone to be speculating about what it will be. I think we all have our wishes for what we would like to see in KCKC's place, and naturally, our opinions about what it "will be" are shaped by those wishes.
Adventurous could mean a new water coaster like the Swing Thing, or it could be a new steel coaster that crosses over to the antique cars, taking a dip over those ponds, or it could simply be a dark ride.
I just hope that PKI does something world class.
Tom.... We were all stating around waiting for the "Grand Opening" of the rides...
I also got 30 or so rides of Reptar.. it is a great ride for kids. It even had some unexpected g-forces. It is short but you have to remember the it is only a kiddie coaster! I really like the theme and tie-in with rugrats movie

I hope PKD sends at least one FOF train back for Friday's preview day...?
Will fof be open on opening day?...i hope
They were talking on Wednesday like FOF would be operational for the weekend, but I'm not entirely sure. It all depends on when the trains get back, but at this point, thing look good. 7th Portal should be up and running as well.
