PKI- The forgotton Ohio Park?

Whenever there is a debate about Ohio, or  CP vs whoever, it always ends up shifting to CP and SFWoA's competing. Does anyone else notice that PKI is not mentioned as much as the two? From what I hear, PKI has more rides, coasters, etc. than SFWoA but it seems lost. Anyone else notice what I am talking about?

Thanks!

It was remember 3.3+ million times this year at the PKI admissions counters, more times than Cedar Point and SFWoA as well as being the third most visited seasonal park in the US behind SFGAdv and Morey's Piers.

I don't know why PKI isn't brought into those debates more than SFWoA. It is nowhere near the same level that PKI and CP are on at all. Maybe more people have been to both CP and SFWoA since they're so close?

It is possible that it has to do with coasters alone when CP and SFWoA are compared as they both probably have more really outstanding coasters people consider: CP(MF, Magnum, Mantis, Raptor); SFWoA(X-Flight, BKF, Villain, SUE), while PKI has fewer outstanding(FOF, SOB), but several more great coasters for their kind I believe.

This is a coaster site. They're going to talk about the park's coasters. If it were about great parks overall, we would hear more about IOA, BGW, SFGAm, and Disney.

Sorry for coming in to this conversation but he asked.

PKI was the third ranked seasonal park in attendance!  Beating out many bigger markets such as Chicago and Atlanta, Forgotten?  NAHHHH!  :)

Personally I think it has more to do with the debate of SF(As a whole) vs. CF(As a whole). The SF vs. CF debates tend to bring more drama to the table. While Paramount is a viable competitor, they just seem to be the stand back and watch competitor. Also CP and SFWOA are only 1 and a half hours drive away from eachother which geographically speaking is spitting distance from eachother. SFWOA seems to want to draw the crowds from CP to their park where as PKI doesnt seem to market this. If anything PKI's competitor would be SFKK and Holiday World.

PKI is just.....uhhhhh.....there.   They aren't really into the "GOTTA BUILD THE BIGGEST AND FASTEST AND MOST INNOVATIVE RIDE" deal(Yeah, I know about SOB and TRTR).  Where as CP gets MF, Magnum, WT, Raptor, Mantis, etc...  SFWOA just happens to be closer to CP.  It's like SFMM and KBF.  They are really close together, PGA is in the same state, but far away, and therefore isn't really brought into the conversation of SFMM and KBF.

Forgotten?  No ... There are many things I would call PKI - forgotten is not one of them ...

I would hardly call it forgotten.  The thing is, PKI has it's niche.  They are not trying to compete with CP and SFWOA (in many ways).  They are a world class regional theme park.  On the other hand we have a park that over 100 years has also turned into a destination resort, which is a rarity for a non-disney non-Universal park!  90 minutes away is a park that is trying to turn from a small (before often unheard of) park to huge destination park in a matter of a few years. (With debatable success at this point).  The contrast between CP and SFWOA at this point is often overshadowing the great theme park which continues to keep on holding it's own in Cincinatti!

CP1, when I read your comment, I got this HUGE HUGE HUGE grin on my face.  I was all like, "UA, it's about time I said something that made sense."  Thanks for the comment.  I was kind of shaky about clicking the button to post it.

Its a matter of a couple of things:
First off, many of the SFWOA threads are "sort of" complaining threads and the CP are praising on many of the accounts. PKI have had really good customer service and have a great arsenal of rides, so people are quite satisfied with them right now, so many topics are passing them by.
Secondly, even though TR:TR is going to be a great ride, many people have lost interst in it for the time being while Xcellerator gets built and X opens. I counted 5 X threads yesterday alone.
Also, we havent seen that many construction shots lately, so there havent been any new questions or topics on that.

So, PKI hasent been forgotten, its just in the back of our minds

CP and SFWoA are more popular because there more publicized.

Ya and I do noptice that only those two are brought up.

I don't know I enjoyed PKI very much.  Went there for the first time this year and even though CP is my home park I enjoyed alot.  They have a nice collection of rides for everyone to enjoy.  And being a wooden coaster junkie I was in heaven with Beast and Sonnie.

ALL about demographics....people with lots o' kids (thankfully not me) go to PKI since their park is more well-rounded when it comes to the little ones.  Since those folks are SO busy with their broods (litters?), they don't come around here too often.  CP is the "destination park" and has TONS of stuff for thrill-seekers, as does SFWoA in their effort to compete, but PKI has TONS more stuff for the smaller kids IMO...the PKI crowd is probably a little under-represented here on the 'buzz.

Chitown, I highly doubt PKI has any competition with HW as it is about 3 1/2 to 4 hours away from the park, about the same amount of time from both CP and SFWoA. SFKK hasn't given PKI decent competition since '98 I think. I hope they can give some in the near future.

I don't see why Paramount is any less viable than CF. Both have two parks with 3+ million in attendance, do a great business, have extraordinary rides and experiences, and are great in guest services. Paramount is big on theming(TRTR, SHM, Nick) and prototype projects(XLC, SOB, Stealth, FSS). Cedar Fair is big on... Cedar Point? For what they bring in, I think CF runs their parks very well, but so does Paramount. I think Paramount is kind of your middle ground between CF and SF. They bring a little of both to their parks and make them very successful and well-rounded for everyone.

DDFire, when has Cedar Fair even been innovative besides with a few choice rides at KBF? To my knowledge, CP has never been innovative except for a twist. But Paramount not being biggest, fastest, innovative? You mentioned TRTR and SOB, but that's not the half of it. There's Hypersonic, Stealth, Drop Zone, Flying Super Saturator, RRR, Flight of Fear, Volcano, Invertigo and before Paramount there was The Beast, King Cobra, Screamin Demon, The Bat...

Rollergator, actually, I think Shaggy and Sean F. have represented the park extremely well since they joined Coasterbuzz. Both have a lot of interesting stuff to say about the park and I know there's a lot of people out here who like to listen.

Overall, the park won me over in 2000 with SOB and continued to do so and even surpassed what they could have done for 2001, so I have high respect for it as a park a business for doing so. I'm sure we'll see them continue to be successful with their family attractions for years to come, but that doesn't mean they'll ever forget the teen/young adult group and coaster fans. Jeff Siebert is a fan himself.

It’s simply really.  CP/SFWOA and PKI may be in the same state but they don’t really compete against each other.  Heck, Kennywood is closer to CP/SFWOA then PKI.  I hardly think PKI is ignored just because it’s not mentioned everytime someone starts a CP or SF thread.

I agree whole-heartedly that Sean and Shaggy have represented PKI well here on the 'buzz...just check out the ACE thread to see my feelings re: Sean, and Shaggy is just...the greatest!  But these people are hardly what I'd call "run of the mill enthusiasts"...LOL!

I just think that CP gets a LOT more "air-time" here on the buzz due largely to the VOLUME of those folks who constantly shout "CP,CP, CP" all the time...I love CP, but it's hardly the ONLY park out there...

the reason pki never get's mentioned is because of cp. the beast is better than any ride at cp except magnum (millinium what). cp is also a great family destination with multiple hotels in & surrounding the park. it also get's lots of coverage from the media (because of the record breaking size and amount of coasters) and the discovery channel features them alot. pki still looks great when you enter and you see the fountains and the midway. there was once a time when pki was the king of parks in ohio. it's opening season featured an episode on the brady bunch tv show. the beast was a record setter for years and still the only wood coaster with two lift chains.

As a Clevelander, I hardly consider Cinci even a part of Ohio. I can get to Kennywood faster than PKI.

However, PKI's biggest draw is to Columbus and Cinci. We don't even get PKI TV ads up here in Cleveland. There's nothing forgotten about it. As an enthusiast, I get a season pass every year and visit several times. It has nothing to do with which park is better or whatever.
