PKDs Flight of Fear RE-OPENS

After much spec-u-la-ta-ting, it seems that FoF @ PKD is open again. I haven't been to the park, but I got a postcard today from PKD that reads:

It's back! Re-opened by popular demand, come out to Paramount's Kings Dominion and ride the world's first LIM roller coaster - again and again!

I do note, however, that it is not yet been added back to the website. Sorry if this is old news, but it was the first I had seen of it!

Well that sucks. I was just there yesterday and it had a fence all around it. Boo to that!

I did get to enjoy the Italian Job though!

I was there today and rode it. I didn't see anthing in the park to indicate that it was open, but it had a line anyway.

Looks like Cedar Fair put a quick stop to the proposed re-location of Flight of Fear. I think it's safe to assume that PKI's version will also remain where it is.

I wonder if any work had been done on the ride before a decision to re-open had been made. *** Edited 8/19/2006 1:56:41 AM UTC by CoasterKrazy***

wow, now this is a HUGE suprise!! and im about to go to the beach for a week, dang it!! lol...s'ok, maybe i can talk my girlfriend into letting me get away for little bit tommorrow before we leave....

THANK YOU CEDAR FAIR!!!!!! :)

What a great way to bring in the crowds. Close a ride, then advertise its re-opening...Brillant.

Almost totally forgot about the whole Whizzer controversy... ahh, good times.

Was there a reason to FoF's closure to start with, or did it just not open at the beginning of the season(s)?

There were lots of rumors I heard - such as:

1) Not enough power for another launchad coaster once Italian Job opened

2) Paramount was going to "rotate" it to another park

3) Paramount was trying to sell the ride

If nothing else, I believe #1 is disproven since CF was able to open it now.

One of the employees working Whizzer (obviously an enthusiast, LOL) said he gave Whizzer a very short leash, a couple of years maximum.

Why PKD has so many launch coasters? To me that's a situation begging for a "ride rotation program"...LOL! Good to see CF at least has FoF up and running. Fabulous rides with the lapbars...but why does KI's have to come to such a stop?

The whizzer at six flags?

If so, what does this have to do with fof?

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Because PKI has a brake fetish. Just look at Beast!

Dang & I missed it by a week!

Still IJTC was definitely worth the ride. Now one of the rumors I heard was that they wanted to sell off the ride to cover the cost of IJ:TC....that sounds more like a six flags thing to me but I'm certainly glad to hear that it's been re-opened.

PKD also has a brake fetish as well, anaconda's MCBR bit down pretty hard during my ride last week although I've had rides where the MCBR was not even on & it still hurts.

The last few times I rode KD's FoF the midcourse stopped the train entirely. Are both FoF's running the same way?
PKI's is slamming to a halt in the midcourse lately. It really puts a damper on the second half of the ride.
Personally, I don't mind the stopping. It makes the second half more bearable.
Well, I had given up on it anyway, but I guess CAR or CW aren't getting it.

I pray CAR gets SOMETHING next year, maybe a rocket, instead. Maybe we'll get another IJST (ugh).

I loved FOF when I rode it last year, so it's not like it was a bad ride or anything. I could theoretically see it being moved to another park or maybe re-theming it at KD, however, I can't see it as a "power" issue.

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

I actually like the lateral hangtime on the ensuing turn, but after that it just seems slow. And when thinking of the ride as a whole, I think it kills the awesome pacing it had when it first opened.

And really, since the shoulder restraints were removed the whole ride is beyond 'bearable', even at speed.

You're kidding, right? The only brakes the park has are the ones you want.
