Tomb Raider? Was that a successful franchise? I can't remember.
The Italian Job? That's not the first movie that comes to mind when I think about high-speed auto action. Not even close.
Snow Day? You've GOT to be kidding me.
Titanic is the only movie that I feel justifies a themed ride, but that should have been done six years ago... not now. The franchise is already old and stale and its only going to get older and more stale as time marches on.
Then again, PKD could probably install a Ferris wheel and a couple of flat rides and experience the same increase in attendance. Not all rides have to be themed spectacles.
PKI's TRTR isn't exactly a ride I want to go on over and over and the reridable things are something I think Paramount should be looking into more right now. I think Italian Job with be something good and smooth that people will want to hop back into and that is probably the most popular car chase movie (combining both versions) in the Paramount library.
Once video/DVD rentals and sales were included, Tomb Raider was a successful franchise for Paramount, but I doubt they'll make anymore films.
Snow Day was a hugely successful movie for families for its ROI, but it was also pretty horrible and I doubt anyone that saw it really remembers it. Those kids have grown up and those parents fell asleep.
Now something I *really* loved was that Ferris Wheel in the concept art for the new Paramount studio park overseas. I think that would be a fantastic eye catcher and look beautiful at night. Do any of the Paramount Parks have a Ferris Wheel? Looks like they have something to look into for the US parks...

I've found that very few themed rides are as re-ridable as basic, unassuming attractions like standard flats and flat-out fun coasters.
I knew there had to be an explanation for how you are, Rob ;)

Some say that PKD's TR:TR may actually be an outdoor version as opposed to the enclosed version that PKI has...however it would be difficult to have many special effects for the ride that way.
It is NOTHING like Berserker. Nothing. Nadda. Totally different experience. The only thing the do have in common is that they both swing back and forth and have OTSRs.
And not only that, but Delirium has huge capacity. I say build one @ every Paramount Park, it will give them their ROI.
The movie might have sucked but guess what, the people reconize the name and they know what the movie was about in general so they would want to see what the ride would be like. And this is the chance for them to rethink the movie is the ride is awsome. They might go back home and watch the movie with their friends and be like, "I've been on a ride that is just like the movie and its awsome!". You know what im trying to say dont cha :).
To sum it up, the theme of a ride is barely half the battle according to the general public and just because the movie didnt do all that well doesnt mean the ride will follow it's footsteps. People may like the actual concept of a movie but not like the movie itself in my opinion.
There are no bad coasters, only better coasters!!

PKI says its 600pph.
HUSS says 1000pph.
Just thought I would throw that in.
Anywho, I happen to enjoy the Beserker at PKD. I lift my feet off the ground as we go upside, making it that much more fun!
As for Top Spins, they are fun too, as long as it flips you alot. The one at SFGAdv was quite boring because I only went upside down once. That was a major dissappointment.
I'm not going to expect anything from the TR at PKD until I ride it. From what you all say, its good but not great. I shouldn't expect a normal Top Spin type ride. *** Edited 9/12/2004 10:27:12 PM UTC by RCTfan***
But I make the same point again; Frisbees and Afterburners/Revolution-style rides have absolutely nothing to do with the inverting pirate ship/space shuttles. They are a completely different ride experience, which if BFSFA had been to SFGadv., HP, or DP, he would know, but I understand he's pretty far from all of those parks.
The whole problem with the Giant Top Spin is that we don't really know what it's capable of, since it has to be in synch with the TR effects. I would like to think that a GTS would be a lot more exciting if it were free of those bonds. The Top Spin at KW (formerly at LC), flipped eight times easily. Seven of those were in a row!
