PKD Drop Zone Update

I went to PKD yesterday(Sunday) and they have 15 or so feet of the tower up. I don't think it's going to be colorful like the one @ PKI. It's gray and has a band of green and a band of orange. Looks cute! The concrete loading platform is all done as well.
The paint job you described sounds cool. Can't wait to see pictures!

I just don't get it...

I forgot to mention that there's a picture @ screamscrape.com. That's the piece that's in place now.
That sucks, the pic doesn't work for me.

I saw the screamscape pic a few weeks ago, Ican't wait to see the car for it when it arrives on site.

Out of curiosity, how do they get the passenger ring installed after the top of the tower has been installed?

That is a really good question, I never thought of that. Come to think of it; how do they get the car on any freefall ride without using a wicked tall crane? And how do you take it off every year for maintenance. If its a multi-tower structure you can't just remove the crown structure. There's gotta be another way.

-Why a car if i could have a coaster train on wheels??

I'm going on the 26th and hopefully my site will be up by then so I can post them.

And I think joe is right, it splits somewhere. Maybe in 1/2 or in fourths. I'll find out next year when I ride it opening day! Oh, and my site address is www.sfa-pkd-place.com theres nothing there now but maybe in a week there will be.

LIMs? Who needs them?

No coasterdude04 that was not me. However, I did ride Hypersonic.

What do you get when you put two half-circles together? Say it with me..."oooohhhhh"

Hmmm..... you get a sphere? Two hemispheres = 1 sphere! :)

I remember the guy at GR (Dan Burns) showing me the first release about this new ride while we waited for him to get Jill's PKI pass info over the phone. Great guy, BTW....

"CCXXVI....will the drop ever stop?"

Ouch, that hurts kraxle, lol. I thought of that, but then I didn't know how they'd be able to keep both halves up right...

Drop Zone at PKI was fun to watch being put up. Every few days it grew taller, and taller, and taller. Looked like a pencil rising from the ground!

Actually I believe it's three pieces for the ring. Atleast thats how it was for Acrophobia here at SFOG. Or maybe it was even four, but I know there were more than two. They are pretty stripped down also. There are no seats or OTSR's or anything like that, the rings just contain the frames. Depending on if they have all the pieces in a public space, like the parking lot, like SFOG did, it's kinda cool to check out the dozens of rows of magnetic breaks, cables, and all that good stuff.

Yeah,I 'm sure that's how the gyro drop car is installed,of course on the 1st generation giant drop(drop zone @ PGA) the cars are attached to their own individual guide rail on the tower making it much easier to install & remove.

It should be really fun watching PKD's drop zone going up,305 ft that is.

Interesting. Sounds like a nice addition to PKD.

Any clue where they are relocating the Scrambler to?

PKI does not take the "ring" off of Drop Zone in the winter. The seats are wrapped in plastic and that is it.
