David Mitchell of Cranberry, PA has organized what he is calling a "town hall meeting" to celebrate the Big Dipper at noon Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars across the road from the former Geauga Lake Park in Aurora. It's for people to share memories of the park and the ride. Two experts on coasters will speak.
Read more from The Post-Gazette.
Ok so let me see if this makes sense...
Cedar Fair closed the park with around 700,000 in attendance in 2007.
In 2008, the Wild Water Kingdom side had roughly 120,000 in attendance (even though CF didn't count it, you can figure it in by looking at last years overall attendance).
Soak City really kind of sucks. It needs re-done in the worst way.
So if all of those facts are true above, then wouldn't it be logical for CF just to close WWK all together and get a "Brand New!" Soak City for next to nothing other then moving costs and re-construction?
Ponder that thought for a few.

Soak City doesn't have an attendance problem because of the resorts. I may not care for it, but it doesn't matter. There's no incentive to improve it when it serves as a consistent revenue stream from those staying on property.
Huh, I guess Soak City doesn't compete with WWK. That sounds like a familiar story.

I thought I had read somewhere on here that waterparks draw from a smaller area than amusement parks. Thus, in fact, Soak City and WWK don't compete, whereas Geauga Lake and Cedar Point did.

I don't have much reason to go to WWK anymore. It's about 15 minutes closer to me than Soak City, but the latter has an amusement park attached to it. I also thought it was neat that SC had a small "beach" with sand. Really the only thing WWK had that I missed was the tornado slide, which was always such a long line I only rode it once during my four visits there anyway.
I don't really care for waterparks. The last waterpark I liked was Wildwood in Columbia Station, with lots of grass and a nice setting.
I wouldn't care if WWK shut down for good. 120,000 attendance isn't all that good when you think about it. At $3,118,800, not including food sales, season passes, parking, etc, that isn't a great deal of money for a park.

As long as CF owns the property WWK will operate. It would be in their best interest to do what they can to make the ride side an attraction, hopefully with Dipper running again.
I am well aware of CF's plans to sell 1) most of the land around WWK 2) the waterpark outright to another company 3) the entire area around the lake. What I was saying is that I would think that at long as CF owns the majority of the land around WWK it will remain open. But I dont feel that will be for much longer.
I also heard from a good source that CF is going to cast a spell on all the food sold in the park so the guests would get sick and never return. ;-)
Since when is Cedar Fair considering selling the water park? I must have missed the press release.

There was no press release, but I know it was offered to people just to get rid of it, I am sure you know what I am talking about. If you really don’t then they really should inform shareholders better than they do. :-)
What's all this talk about "Shareholder" this and "shareholder" that, dad? Anyone who owns a few hundred shares of the company really has no say so in what the company decisions, and are not privileged with knowing what their secrets are.

My website is still around - even though some douchbag changed the link
When I go to your profile, the linking url for your website is actually:
http://coasterbuzz.com/www.geaugalaketoday.com
even though the text reads 'www.geaugalaketoday.com' which means that you probably didn't update your info after the site changed to the new design. (happened to my links too)
Occasionally, I've noticed people's links get the 'http://coasterbuzz.com' prefix added to the front. Not sure why it happens, but obviously it's not a correct URL. It's trying to direct to a coasterbuzz page that doesn't exist and when that happens you get a 404 error.
Your botched link leading to Jeff's 404 page (which has been around since the redesign of the site) is kind of ironic considering the topic and source.
Worth a chuckle, at least. :)
I doubt any douchebag around here changed the link to your site and a simple, two-second edit to your profile would fix the URL.
(another conspiracy theory busted ;) )
^Thanks - I already figured it out. Although it would have been nice if the webmaster told me that the first time I PM'ed him.
It actually was funny.
Why don't you tell everyone about all of the names you called me in your PM because of your user error? Or run back to your little site of malcontent conspiracy theorists and do it there. I'd rather you not post here anymore.

You didn't seem to be laughing when you launched into yet another attack on your web site. Though the part where you claimed Kinzel was an investor in CoasterBuzz made me laugh. :)
Walt Schmidt - Co-Publisher, PointBuzz
That must be quite the ego boost. But how can we not read it? How else would we know how evil we are? How we kick puppies, ban users who don't agree with us, and party with the boys at Kinzel Kastle?
To be fair, your frequent accusation that Jeff and Dick Kinzel are golf buddies is probably more wacky than the Geagua Lake conspiracy theories. Proof, perhaps, that you're not reading CoasterBuzz or PointBuzz. Because it's nothing but Cedar Point praise on the Buzz.
Then again, you've never been one to let facts get in the way. :)

Yes I was wrong, but at least I know they read GLT :-)
I have to admit that because of these posts here I took a look at GLT. Unfortunately, though, all I saw for the most part was a lot of noise.
For someone who happens upon the site and from whom you may wish to garner support for your cause, the discussions appear to be a lot of mud slinging and accusatory ranting.
It's obvious that you are passionate about your position and even if you could support your position with facts, what value does it hold?
You want people to take a constructive approach to saving a coaster. How is talking about your perceived greed of CF and your idea that purchasing and closing GL was a manipulated move going to get you there...let alone hating on Jeff and Walt who have nothing to do with GL and the coaster?
If you hate CBuzz and its webmaster so much, don't access the site any more. And it seems to me that if you want to be taken seriously by anyone in the industry, fan or park executive or investor or general public, you should work on your professionalism a bit.
Disrespecting other sites makes you look bad, not the other way around.

I booted him off. I really don't have any desire to put up with trolling, especially from someone who thinks I'm some kind of Dick Kinzel fan. Really, that's someone who selectively pays attention.
And for the record, we have never in the decade plus that CB and PB have been around, banned someone for disagreement. Not even once. If everyone agreed on everything, the forums would be boring. We have, however, booted people for violating the terms of service, usually for things like hate speech, threats, naughty words and spam (or in this case, blatant trolling). Beyond that, the participants in any community tend to police themselves. Moderators rarely do much moderating, which is more obvious than ever since relaunching the site, because deleted posts and topics still appear in a different color for us. It's mostly black and white, most of the time.
