Pictures od Dragster's new seats

Very good points Immelman. I wish they would have done the same thing especially when weight is such a big part of the equation. Another thing is, don't those big round heavy wheels also increased the "drag" ten-fold? (Sorry for the bad pun)

Wood - anything else is just an imitation

I think that if they put the slicks and the airfoil back on, it would really make the trains look good again. The engine looked good, but did add a lot of weight. I'll take capacity over theming any day.

Lets go Drag racing.

I have an idea...why doesn't CP contact Little Tikes in Hudson, OH (about 1.5 hours from CP) to build them some "slicks". They can make very lite ones, since Little Tikes are the builders of Power Wheels! And since those things have plastic wheels, I think they could make some for them. LOL but anyway a shorter wait is great, and when i rode it and hour before it closing a month ago the engine was gone, but the tires still attached. If they should put anything back on, I say put the spoilers back on. Oh well, atleast its back up and running and i can ride it later this week!

I have a feeling that Intamin and CP both decided to use the lightest tires/theming that would give them the desired look. There's no real design decision there. It's a no brainer.

I don't know about the lightest theming possible. The slicks were real and the engine was a real engine block minos the crank, rods pistons and probably camshaft and valves. I thought that it would just be som fake plastic lookalike, but it was a real engine. If they put the slicks and the spoiler back on, the trains would still look great.

They could use cardboard for the slicks. How much lighter can you go?

Only kidding, cardboard isn't very sturdy.

Cardboard? I think paper mache` would be a better material. Once it's painted black to look like rubber it would be downright waterproof. But then again, papercuts could be really nasty at 121mph.

Wood - its what paper mache` is made from

Well even without the theming, I'm still looking forward to riding this thing. Those who have ridden it both ways - is there a difference in the drag with out the themeing?

While i have not ridden top thrill dragster i think that there is probably a difference in the drag. But now the trains look more like darts instead of dragsters, and that black box on the back of the train just seems out of place.

If you look at those pics and what the train capacity was originally, it's only a two person difference. There was a 16 passenger capacity before and now an 18 passenger capacity. I dont't see how two people is gonna make a 15-20 minute difference.
I wasn't all for the themeing because its the only themed ride at CP. The themeing doesnt do anything for me but I'm sure it would be awesome at night with the themeing (Light sequence).

Because 2 people is a 12.5% increase in capacity. If you were going to wait 120 minutes in line, you'll now have 8/9's the waiting time, which is a savings of 13 minutes. If you were going to wait for 180 minutes, you'll save about 20 minutes.

Yes, you too can do math with my secret techniques. Call now and we'll also throw in the common sense handbook for free.

But WAIT...there's more...you also get a Front-of-the-line Pass good for Jr. Gemini...the Ginsu100...a Ronbotics CoasterRider (motion not included)...and the fabulous CoasterBuzz Swimsuit Issue. Operators are standing by...

When did they first start using these trains with people in them? Also, is there a noticable difference between the old and new trains.

BTW Has anyone ridden in the new seats yet? If so does it have great Airtime?

I thought the seats formerly known as the back seats were pretty insane to begin with. I wonder what another couple of feet will do for the ride.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

Immelman....WTF are you thinking...as fast as Indy cars go, top fuel dragsters go much faster... Dragsters can go over 300 (look at last week's results at NHRA.com) where CART cars "only" go in the low-mid 200's (see the results from the latest race for best lap times)

It's not the tires that failed on TTD, it was how they were attached, which was not a real vehicle suspension, they were bolted to a piece of the frame of the train and (presumably) the welds there failed.

I'd take capacity any day over theming. Certain heavily themed coasters -like thunder mountain rely on theming as part of their experience...

This coaster's experience lies not in the theming but, well, in the huge friggin hill, launch and spiraling drop.

So quicker lines vs. a little more half-assed theming?

I'd take quicker lines for this experience!

I AM CANADIAN
why aren't you?

Has anyone noticed yet that the back cars look a lot more like the "middle" cars now? If I remember right, the paint looked different on the rear car and it was styled a little differently (in a profile view) than the middle cars. Now, except for the front car, all the cars look the same. Perhaps some of this wait time was for six more "middle" cars to be manufactured? I still think that large black box has some significance and although I didn't get a real good look at it, it looked to me to be very similar to the hookups between cars on the rest of the trains. Perhaps in the future we'll be looking at 20-seat trains with full themeing? And maybe even some windtunnel testing on the themeing or something to that effect that is keeping those cars someplace other than on the ride? Just my little conspiracy theory for the day ;)

Edit: these observations popped into my head when I was actually looking at the cars at the Point this weekend, not based on the above pictures. If you haven't seen them in person yet, the above pictures might not depict what I'm talking about.

We i wish i was there when the tire fell off and bounced under Iron Dragon. That would be hilarious. I too choose capacity over theming. I am going to the point on the 12 so i hope it stays open.
